While most of us WAFLers have been screaming for years for the WAFL to promote the competition better, it was announced during the week that their will be a new country football show screening statewide on WIN television.
How is it that the country football league through the media itself, can get something like this off the ground, yet the WAFL cant ?? The show is on Tuesday Nights at 10.30pm, then replayed before a live AFL game on the weekends. Karl Langdon, Mark Readings and Tyson Beattie are hosting the show and it looks like a brilliant concept for country football in WA. Good luck to them with it and well done on the initiative.... Initiative being a non-existant word around the halls of the WAFL. We had some terrific characters back in the WAFL days and they gave the competition a real boost and positivity. It made Saturday afternoons very appealing in Perth and gave off a great footy feel, whether it was the radio shows or the Sunday morning panel shows. There were good laughs and great analysis of the games. It is a real shame the WAFL cannot come up with a similar format and maybe invest something in a pilot show proposal to give to the networks. It is more about getting a real personality to steer it, that will enable it to take off and grab the attention of the public. And though the comp is on a smaller scale these days, there are still characters around. If the country can show the way in promoting themselves like this, it is a sad indictment on the WAFL directors in my opinion. I am sick of blokes like Dorrington and Roberts coming out on Foundation Day and saying how great it is to see so many people at the footy, like they are doing this incredible job or something.... Put Foundation Day aside and work out how to direct the public to the other 22 weeks of the year hey boys. |
