significance of red and gold sash

greetings :)

can someone tell me please , what is the significance of a red sash and gold sash laid over the shoulders ?

a friend saw this in meditation and wondered what it means , where/when are these sashes used ?

thankyou

Welcome HeadsUp,

Could you explain in more detail what you mean by "a friend saw this in meditation" ? Are you and your friend Buddhists ?

with kind wishes,

Aloka

the friend is buddhist , and saw this in a vision during meditation .

you know the kind of vision where things look brighter and clearer than what we see on this physical earth plane dimension with our eyes open , like a dream , only more vivid and clear.

the sashes were 3 - 4 inches wide , first one burgundy colour then one gold colour .

thanks

I'm a little puzzled because if your friend is a Buddhist, why isn't he/she researching it ?

Looking at photos of different robes and outfits worn by Tibetan monks and lamas might help.

This overview of different Buddhist robes might also be helpful.

No not really. I don't have 'visions' when I'm meditating .http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ilies/grin.gif

spent half an hour searching and reading on the robes and clothing worn since the early days of buddhism in east asia , japan , korea and china etc etc , but didnt find the significance of a sash placed over the shoulders of a person

thanks for your efforts

Probably connected to Tibetan Buddhism because its their colors.

Anyway, perhaps you'd like to tell us a little more about yourself and how you
became interested in Buddhism ?

Do you and your friend go to a centre or meditation class offline ?

Hello

I am 47 years young , male , have practiced Yoga and meditation since 18 years ago , i attended christian churches for a few years , but buddhism is my heart nature and my personality more so than being something i have to study or practice.

i attended buddhist centers since 10 years ago

I am vegetarian , have no alcohol , no drugs , single man and live a solitary life.

I work hard in my own business but sometimes make time for trips to yoga ashrams or retreat centers.

During meditations I have seen and recorded clear details of around 14 past lives , some of them not very good and others - experiential

I have met some very enlightened beings , but i am not in a hurry to achieve enlightenment , if it comes it comes and is merely opportunity for clarity and more accurately positioned service if it happens.

best wishes

Hi Headsup,

I am just curious, what is your idea of an 'enlightened being'?

Yuan's question to HeadsUp : 'What is your idea of an enlightened being' has been moved to the General Buddhist Discussions forum.

Thank you.
