Addressing a Thevaradin Monk
I got an e-mail back from the Vihara confirming that Dhamma study and meditation instruction is available this weekend. I was wondering what is the correct mode of address for a Thevaradin monk?
I've read that venerable sir would be acceptable, is this correct? Your advice as always is appreciated. |
Which nationality is the monk? That makes a difference, sometimes. I think "Venerable Sir" is fine, but I've never met a monk who got offended by an incorrect form of address. The best thing, I think, is to simply ask him! http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ilies/wink.gif

They are Sri Lankan Monks, FBM, I got an e-mail back from a Bhante Amitha, I just wanted to be polite when I first arrived. I'll do as you say and ask. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ilies/grin.gif

Great! "Bhante" plus his name is good in Sri Lanka, I think. If he wants to be addressed differently, I'm sure he'll let you know in a kind and gentle way. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/peace.gif

Perhaps I should have entitled this thread addressing my terrible spelling! http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ilies/grin.gif
