I know the smaller bales are usually 100 pounds and the bigger ones 1,000 pounds. I assume these are 100 pound bales. What is the price you listed? I didn't understand it.

Importing Used Clothes

I was in the early stages of setting up a business in the DR to import and sell used clothes. I contacted a shipping company out of Miami and a used clothing warehouse and was ready to go. I went online and ran a search on used clothing DR1 and came up with an article saying that it is illegal to import clothes. Does anyone know more about this? I have seen used clothes stores in the DR.

sure is, but you do not have to do much . In Santiago the clothing arrives early a.m. sold for 3kp.d. *bundle or bale( used clothing mkt. On thursday. except for holidays. there is an adv. in the newspaper....You will do alright...$$$

puerto did you find any more info on the used clothes?

Yep, strictly illegal.

If you go to the 'pulga' on Luperon on Sundays, you won't see tons of folks not buying used clothes, from tons of vendors that aren't there, with their hundreds of trucks that aren't there, not loaded with thousands of pounds of bales of clothes.

On the road to my house, I pass at least 5-6 stores that are not selling used clothes from bales, and all of those businesses do not have HUGH signs that advertise that they don't sell used clothes from bales.

Seriously, there has to be some serious money changing hands at the lower levels of gov't for this to keep happening even though laws have been passed to prohibit it.
