Default What Do You Blog About?
I know that many of us who blog have trouble coming up with topic ideas, so I wanted to talk about that. I just read a post by Marcus Sheridan called Why “Interesting” is a Very Overrated Blogging Quality. He's right: sometimes we freeze up because we think we can't blog about anything interesting enough. But whatever your industry, there's a plethora (yes, I said plethora) of topics to cover. I sometimes have to step away from my blog to think of new topics. Here are some general ideas:
  • How tos
  • Editorials
  • Your opinion on news or trends
  • Piggyback another blogger's post
  • Definitions of key terms
  • Announcements
  • Book/product reviews

I also find inspiration in the weirdest places, like in things I see while driving, magazines, my family...where do you find inspiration, and what do you do when it's hiding?

Not going to lie. Inspiration comes to me when I'm taking a nice hot shower.

Location aside, I find a lot of inspiration from watching TED videos. Actually, here's one that has recently inspired me about Design to Change Reality. The key here is to bookmark these moments and save it for later. This type of material I keep for my personal blog.

When I'm at work and thinking of topics that would engage an audience, the best place to look is to figure out how people found your website. I love data, and the search query report on Google Analytics is godsend for me. Here's a good example of what I mean by that people searching the darndest things.

When in doubt, search. It's there, but you just have to find it. Expose yourself or revisit what you know. Sometimes it takes a while to get that spark of inspiration, but you won't get it without volume.

Get ready to get inspired:

I have managed to blog for almost 10 years time now. I must admit that I have had problems to find something to blog about at times. The writer's block has occurred on several occasions. We come up with a smart way of scheduling different topics each during the week for our site on tea.

With apps and services like Instagram, Pinterest and Tumblr, do you think it will be easier to come up with things to blog about in the future?

I think it depends on where you find inspiration. I find inspiration in life, magazines, books, websites, and news. We'll definitely have more visual posts!
