Default Mintex Dales Rally 1973
According to the entry list for the 1973 Mintex Dales Rally car no. 18 was entered by Hamish Hannah & Roger Turnbull driving a Clan Crusader with the reg'n LOO 333J. Can anyone please tell me if this car & crew actually entered or which car/crew ran as no. 18 with the reg'n if possible. Thanks.

Entrant in official programme was Grants Standfast and other details as you list. Colour of car yellow.
As a competitor on the 73 Mintex, I have no idea whether they turned up or where to look, if they were not mentioned in a contemporary report in MN etc, other than asking De Lacy Motor Club if they have records (but not right now as they are busy with the R.A.C.).
Changed entries or possibly changed entries are a real problem for historians. I was there and I don't have a clue.

According to the results, now found, the same crew ran in an Escort (listed as an RS1800 but this was 1973, so it is either a misprint or an attempt to represent the actual capacity of the RS1600 they used - many were running 1760cc then). Retired after Special Stage 25 (of 35) - which means it could have been on the road section between 25 and 26 or failed to complete 26.

As we all know LOO 333J was the RS1600 campaigned by Roy Fidler in 1971 with the usual support from Withers of Winsford. If Hammy Hannah changed his entry to a RS1800 could it have been to the car from whence the original registration came ? In the early 80s I bought a mark 1 rolling shell purported to have been LOO 333J from Hammy Hannah by a roundabout route. The car came with reg BTR12 and the VIN No. SERVICE 180 Was this a common form of VIN plate for ex works cars ?

I used this car on the Southbound Rally in Derbyshire at that time and was last recorded finisher. A remarkable achievement considering I had rebuilt the car using stainless steel nuts and bolts which shook loose very quickly and I spent most of the event putting bits back on that had fallen off.
