![]() GMAYL has certainly grown with the public. i originally thought it would simply disappear just like that. I had my sentiments for this track and i wished it performed better. http://mymonumentalicons.blogspot.co...-all-your.html Chart Update for Give Me All Your Luvin' UK Singles Chart # 104 (re-enter) US Digital #133 US Dance Club Play #1 Canada Top 100 #39 Canada Digital #40 I can (now) understand why they had to sacrifice this single to save MDNA. It was a bad move for GMAYL's sake but a good one to save MDNA charting low considering MDNA's shaky hold on the charts. Lionel Ritchie has overtaken Madonna in US iTunes already as she is at no.3... hope she gets more sales down the weekend. ![]() |

Madonna has been nowhere to be seen in the U.S. She is not promoting this album at all, which is just insane. Meanwhile, Lionel Richie's press junket includes the Today Show, Letterman, The Voice, and Piers Morgan. All in one week! Meanwhile Madonna ... has done a Facebook chat. That's it. Does she want her album to tank? I know she's rehearsing for her tour, yadda yadda, but she could take a week off. Meanwhile, she was everywhere for W.E., which we knew only five people would actually see.
I just find it odd that she give a huge publicity push with the Superbowl back in February, release super-commercial singles that don't reflect the album (and are not the best songs on it), and seemingly put more effort into the first two videos than she has in a while ... and then totally disappear. It makes absolutely no sense, and I think this album deserves better. |

"Despite a career spanning three decades, with the release of her latest album Madonna has made it clear she is not going the traditional route that she may have gone promoting her past albums." -- from Billboard news
Well, interscope and her management are banking on this thing with Spotify to stream her album on Facebook ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Regardless of whether the music on MDNA is good or not, the promotion for this era has been utterly pathetic. She promoted W.E. a lot and did the Super Bowl back in Jan/Feb but that's it. All she's done for MDNA is a 25 minute chat with Jimmy Fallon on FB, a 10 minute appearance at a festival that you could only see online, and a 30 minute Twitter Q&A. I understand she wants to rehearse for her tour but she could've definitely made some tv appearances. There aren't even any magazine covers which is absolutely insane! There has NEVER been a era without her gracing at least a few magazine covers. It's like she wants the album to fail. If she comes in a #3 in the US it's her own fault. I just think it's so bizarre. She really thought her career as a director was gonna take off. That's why she did so much promo for W.E. She shot herself in the foot. And I'm tired of Guy O. saying they're trying a non-traditional method of promotion. That's just code for "we ain't doin' shit!". I'm just glad that I love the album (minus a few songs). I'm sure the tour will be amazing but as a Madonna fan I like to have all the magazines, tv performances and tv appearances for an era too.

The thing is, promotion is generally not for the artist's fans because all of them know everything already, it's for the general public who does not follow Madonna but might be tempted to buy her crap if she's on tv or if they happen to read an interesting interview with her while slurping down coffee and donuts. The facebook "event" and the twitter "experience" probably interested fans mostly and didn't go in depth into anything. I think maybe M also didn't want journalists to ask her constantly about her divorce, considering a lot of her songs are about that (although to me HC is just as much about the failed relationship...). She should have started by taking more time to finish this album. It was rushed in so quickly she couldn't even decide on an actual tracklist and decided to put all of it on there : let the fans decide. She could have set up a stronger 10 or 11 tracks record with a little more time and kept the rest for an upcoming EP of MDNA unreleased material or something. And clearly GMAYL was released as a commercial package for her SuperBowl Return to Showbiz, even after being leaked months before. She should have scrapped that, released I'm Addicted as first single with GMAYL as a b-side, free with purchase of IA and perform her crappy football ditty at the SuperCan but still have a decent, even amazing, song on the radio promoting her album. Oh well, rant over...

I agree with everything you're saying. I do think the music is very strong though for the most part (besides the singles). Oh man, if I'm Addicted was the first single I would've DIED. That's really interesting that you think she didn't want to answer any divorce questions. I never thought of that. You're probably right. I have no idea if this is feasible but maybe M and team wanted to see what happens if they don't do any traditional promo. And since everybody says that nowadays the money is in touring and not in CD sales/downloads then they may technically not need to advertise her album. As long as the tours sell all is ok ![]() |

Out of the UK Top 100 and nowhere to be seen in the airplay charts. I've not heard Girls Gone Wild on the radio at all yet. |

She's not unpopular by any means in the UK and I've never noticed any resentment that she divorced Guy Ritchie. But what the lack of success for "Give Me All Your Luvin'" in the UK says to me is not that people don't like her, but that mediocrity won't cut it as a lead single. BBC Radio 1 play is also a factor though, and they didn't playlist it to my knowledge. Whether that's because they didn't like it or because they're trying to chase a younger audience and think Madonna is not suitable for that is open for debate.
I still expect the album to do well though. I'd be surprised if it doesn't go to No.1. But I'm also surprised that she hasn't had a sizeable pre-release hit, which is the first time that's happened since the first album. |
