Did you get to give the book to Tori, with there not being a meet at the RAH? Did it get given at Hammersmith, if so what did she say about it?

I can answer on behalf of Kara (I don't think she posts here.) The book was given to Tori in Hammersmith, not sure what she said about it though as the M&G was quite rushed.

Kinda pricey.
Kinda beside the point, given, you know, the money's for charity.

It's not besides the point if one doesn't have that kind of money to give away.

So what would you propose they do? If you don't have that kind of money to give away, you shouldn't be buying things, whether for a cause or not, in the first place. Right? Honestly the comment seemed very left-field and obnoxious.

I think you are making my comment into something it's not.

Objectively, for a book of what it comprises I think it's pricey. So what? It's just an opinion. No need to get out of sorts because of it.

Fair enough. I read into the comment the wrong way then. I'm a little on edge today, I'm sorry.

Default The EWF Photography Book "Here together apart" - a benefit for RAINN
Hi guys,

A little while back (in the "From Russia With Love" camera set thread), a few of us discussed the idea of using photography as a way of bringing Tori fans from all corners of the world together by way of a project, the final product of which would be presented to Tori and also sold to benefit RAINN.

Well, thanks to the photographic contributions of 35 of you, my friend (and mastermind of this project Kara Lines) has created "Here together apart" - a paperback book which compiles the photography (and some accompanying text) of fans from all walks of life, all over the world.

It is available to order through Lulu.com and is 100% not-for-profit. £5 from every sale of the book goes to RAINN. The rest of the money goes to Lulu.com who print the book for you - Kara doesn't make a cent (but I can assure you, she's put in a huge amount of man hours on this project and for that, she must be applauded!!)

Here is the link to the book.

As a heads up, you can actually get a discount by entering a coupon code at the checkout. "FALLBOOKS" got me £5.30 off my order (don't worry, this does not affect your £5 going to RAINN!)

If anyone has any questions, don't hesitate to contact me in this thread/by PM and I'll do my best to answer or put you directly in touch with Kara. I can also provide links to the Facebook groups that we created in the run-up to this project.

Finally, I hope it's ok to post this here. I read the forum rules before posting (I don't post here that often anymore!) and it said no links to external sites, but I don't know if that was just in relation to music leaks etc - if it's not acceptable to post this here, please let me know

Thanks

Just in answer to those who think it's pricey - it's the way lulu works.

The EWF book =
Perfect-bound Paperback 138 pages
Full color
15.2 wide × 22.9 tall
£26.50

A book i made for myself =
Perfect-bound Paperback 110 pages
Full color
21.6 wide × 21.6 tall
£14.87

The extra pages of the EWF book, plus the £5 added on top to give to rainn will be what take it to that high sounding price.
My total of £14.87 is what lulu charge to print it, i haven't added any profit level on top because so far i made it a private sale only. The EWF book will have added the £5 on top of their costs to give to rainn.

I think i explained it right, just trying to help!
(I'm not in the book btw, didn't know it was happening or might have submitted something!)
rainn is a great cause worth supporting, as is rape crisis uk, anyone with spare cash please donate

I agree, ToriMODE, it's not cheap at all, and we don't really expect a huge amount of people to buy the book on a casual basis. I posted in here because of the previous discussions we had in an old thread and quite a lot of people showed interest (and likewise, a lot of people contributed their photographs some time ago and perhaps forgot that they did, so this post was also intended to inform those people that the book had now come into existence )

Just me is absolutely spot-on when she explains how Lulu works. The book hasn't been mass-produced. The price you pay actually goes towards your book being printed, or "created" if you will, so it's not like there's 1,000 copies of this book sitting in a warehouse somewhere ready to be shipped. If there were, then the book would have been a lot cheaper to sell based on economies of scale, but it would have involved Kara having to invest a lot of money up front to do this, and because we had no guarantee of the level of interest in this book and no predicted sales figures, it would have been a potentially expensive risk for Kara to take on board, and as she's already invested a lot of time and effort into the book, we didn't feel that was fair on her. (Another option may have been to take "pledges" or pre-orders from people, but again, this would have been risky and Kara wanted to have the book ready to present to Tori at the Royal Albert Hall show next week )

Just to re-iterate, it's 100% not-for-profit, the price allows £5 to go to RAINN and the rest is purely the costs involved in Lulu creating your book for you.

Thanks a lot to everyone who has posted in this thread so far - all nice compliments and very valid points (Especially regarding Rape Crisis UK, we thought carefully about the charity and would like to consider another project in the future that will benefit a UK charity seeing as that's where we're from!)
