Default Is there a formula used to calculate child support
Does anyone know if there a particular formula that is used to calculate the amount of monthly child support payments required by the courts?

I know in the U.S. there's is one specific to your earnings (maybe by state?) but have never heard of similar in the DR. You usually just hear complaining about the 500-1000 pesos the guy is sending the girl per month, and usually for the three kids.

There are several ways to determine this.

The first is to take all your monthly earnings into a small room and draw a circle in the middle of the room. Throw all of your money up in the air. Whatever lands within the circle, you send off for child support. The rest you keep.

The second method is similar to the first except that you draw a line about one third down the room. Whatever lands in the smaller area goes to the kids.

The final, (and most common method in the DR) is to draw a line around the room one foot above the floor. Whatever lands above the line is sent to the kids...

There is no formula that dictates a fathers obligation, but there is quite a bit of negotiating between lawyers should the lady be wealthy enough to employ one.
This will change big time when the new regs are brought in, well, if they are brought in properly. Keeping track on who is going in and out should secure a few kids and mothers of their rights.

25% of your montlhy income was the old rule but everything is negotiable....especially the price of an airline ticket !

Based on how much actually ends up being paid on a regular basis, i believe they use this calculation

x2−5x+4x+1x−4(^.3.14/.ooo2)

Nearly. Assuming "x" is your income and you make US $100,000 annually the result would be:

((100000 x 2)-(5 x 100000)+(4 x 100000)+(1 x 100000) - 4)^(3.1415926/.0002) = (a very large number)

That's not the formula I would use (it has a small error), but it's close enough.

I think I have seen the same formula being used to calculate the gas prices.
