Banks are a good idea, as in I can buy a house even though I cannot afford it at the moment.

Then again, they don't just borrow you the money, they want interest. In here, if you take about... let's say 300k for a house loan, you'll end up paying 900k back. So the bank makes quite a bit of cash from letting you buy the house. And of course if you fail to make the payments, they'll take the house.

If there was no banks, are you saying there would be no houses bought or sold? I guess the owner would have to sell the house and function as the bank at the same time. Or if the prices were too high and everyone was in poverty due to the ownership and landlords, we, the not so rich, would eventually kill them all and take it.

Banks suck in this case, because I was giving them money for nothing in return, and they gave me attitude.

Precisely the problem with it. Except that there actually were. The upper-level party leaders were pretty wealthy and not keen on sharing.
