What's a good site to host email on for a startup business?

Also, this is embarressing, but I don't really know how to use Outlook. always had corporate maintained Lotus for last 10 years for work mail. And then yahoo for personal.

There might also be a webmail option.

My current job (two co-owners plus me) uses asher's second link, which works out pretty well - the emails are addressed to loinburger@furrydiaperdickgirlpizzafetishforum.com instead of loinburger@gmail.com

I was crowing too fast. The google instructions don't seem to work right. and directnic seems to make it very confusing on purpose of how to transfer the name. Grrr.

TamreuddyRada 05-11-2010 07:18 AM

Yes, google doesn't take over the whole domain. Just the cname.

noingenah 05-11-2010 07:23 AM

And the stupid Directnic thing is not responding. I think they are sleazey (and I was warned about sleazey domain registrars and tried to avoid them, but still hit one I think.)

If the same server slowness affecting my account panel in Directnic affects the domain name, I want that thing out of there. What is a reputable bulletproof domainhosting service?

Don't know this offhand, unfortunately.

Time for bed. Try again tomorrow.

I think I'm figuring it out. Cross fingers. Directnic is a pain in the ass. Probably migrate off of that. Very hard to find the controls for DNS changes. And it seems to be unimportant enough that Google does not give explicit directions for it (as opposed to Go Daddy or the like)

reputable bulletproof domainhosting is a contradiction in terms http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...s/frownnod.gif

Well, I talked to Directnic. They say I need to buy "DNS Pro" for an extra 5 bucks per year for CNAME ability. I don't mind paying that, really. Just irked at them. Wonder, if I should just trasnfer the domain or just pay someone to set it up. But I hear it is a pain to transfer the domain out of Directnic. I may just buy the Pro.

imictiorume 05-11-2010 06:24 PM

That sounds abit expensive

What're you want your website to do? If it's just a simple informational website with a couple pages, I'd make it for you for $1900 http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ilies/wink.gif (That's what, $1900/hr?)

quedry36 05-11-2010 06:54 PM

That'll be $1905

toopyimport 05-11-2010 07:03 PM

The IT guys who do this kind of stuff certainly do not make the big bucks. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ilies/wink.gif

Alright. I think I did change the CNAME successfully. Have to "wait up to 48 hours for verification". Then get the joy of changing the email over.

Sopzoozyren 05-11-2010 08:31 PM

Details for the new startup? Something on the side, or are you doing it full time?

Riprincattiva 05-11-2010 08:56 PM

PM me and will email the salacious information.

Tzqowwyt 05-11-2010 10:15 PM

I had bought a domain name, didn't like where it was and tried to transfer the name, it was a complete nightmare! It took two months to get the transfer complete. I finally just bought another one at the domain I wanted. So good luck hope it works out.

Vomekayafboke 05-12-2010 06:16 PM

I got the email working. Building the website now.
