For anyone who followed yesterday's men's figure skating showdown, this shouldn't come as a surprise, given the athletes' behavior off the ice.

Lysacek seemed like a genuinely nice guy... and he skated his routine noticeably cleaner than the Plushenko. He deserved his gold, according my totally ignorant view, and even more so in the light of the comments by Plushenko afterwards.

He trashed the sport because he lost, and showed everyone that he might be an athlete but his sportsmanship is nil.

Furthermore, the fact that the russian tzar Putin weighted in on a sports competition is plain ridiculous... made even more ridiculous by his rude remarks. Again, not uncommon for Putin.

And for a sports commentator to say: "in a few years' time nobody will remember Lysacek while Plushenko would go down in history as one of the greatest of all time" is simply inappropriate. A nation of philistines they are...

In other figure skating news, the reigning queen of "male" figure skating, Johnny Weir was trashed by the judges. After skating a perfect routine, he was under-judged by something like 8 points on purely subjective reasons, despite skating a perfect technical section. He didn't skate for a medal, but he certainly should've gotten a higher score. Just because he's more flaming than the Human Torch, and makes the hosts of "Queer Eye" look as macho as Hulk Hogan, it doesn't mean he should've gotten snubbed the way he did.

I didn't get to the end of the night to see these two guys but what I can say is, wow men's freestyle skating is boring. The short program was okay but the free just seems to drag on to me. Since I didn't watch I can't really comment from what I've seen views were mixed but to be fair he has been going on about the Quad since before the games began and bemoaning how it is becoming more and more of a dance competition than a skating competition. One thing I have noticed is the difference in physique between the men in the pair's and in the men's. I know there is obvious reasons for this difference but have they always been such pansies? Come on Denis Ten practically looks like a lady boy!

i didn't see it, but it seems pretty crass from what i read. 5 triples done perfectly makes sense for a win vs an a routine with an imperfect quad and imperfect triples. The russian did a harder routine with some stumbles while the americans was easier and perfect. I don't understand what the complaint is. Do snowboarders all have to be able to do a mcdouble twisty in order to win now because 1 person can do it?

Well actually the Americans I'll let off a bit as they complained before the final, i.e. they wanted it sorted out, whereas the Canadians only bitched after she won

Yes, the Canadian(s) who complained was/were definitely jerks - the helmet had already been protested and passed so, apart from causing a lot of stress to the girl and making themselves look like idiots, what was the point?
I bet the next meeting ALL the teams are wearing similar helmets!

I've always like figure skating actually, and I've appreciated the fact that it's gotten less fruity over the years. Believe it or not, Lysacek is actually dating a girl.

As for 'Dancing With The Stars', you couldn't pay me to watch that crap. We do watch "So You Think You Can Dance" religiously though... but that's because we're pretty avid dancers, and that program showcases true talent.
