Good thing you did, or the whole thread wouldn't be worth much. Hell, 5 people died in a pickup truck that was mudding in West Texas. I could have said it was Bush's fault and rivaled this thread.

It is the second since the system opened. And only the second time someone has died (except for all those folks throwing themselves in front of the tracks). So... I'd say that is a pretty damn good safety record.

I don't think that WMATA values a human life sufficiently highly

I wouldn't value human life very highly if I had to live where a bunch of politicians work either.

It's not really fair to compare the DC Metro to the NY Subway; NY has the best heavy rail system in the country. Better to compare DC to the BART or some other lesser system.

Quite possibly. I thought subways were considered light rail and heavy rail was mainly freight and intercity travel.
