How's that? Governor trumps senator so Palin has more exexcutive experience than Obama has. If that's the standard we're going by, Palin has more executive experience than McCain and should be the Presidential nominee. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ilies/wink.gif To answer your question, though, Palin has only 2 years of public service on the state or national level to her credit (her 2 years as Alaska governor - everything else before that is local level). Obama's on his 12th year of state or national public service (eight years in the Illinois state house, four in the U.S. Senate). |
Palin? WTF?
Well, at least she has some executive experience. Not like these legislators who to a man (or woman) have an inflated view of their political powers. |

She also was a mayor for six years before that, which trumps state house in my book, and was in unelected State government positions in between (as ethics board). Either way, she's also not running for President... so there's certainly a lower 'experience' requirement. I think, however, that her gubernatorial experience is a big plus to the McCain campaign (isn't this the first time since at least 1960 that someone who wasn't either a governor or former VP was running... and even then, Nixon was a former VP, so it goes further back than that.) |
One word: WTF?! A heart beat from the Presidency, anyone?

Interesting pick. How will those pictures of the team look though, of a young Palin next to McCain? Like "Wow, maybe if we elect them, he'll die in office and we can have a HOT CHICK for PRESIDENT!!" ... I wonder if they'll trot out her Miss Alaska runner up pictures http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ilies/cute.gif |
She also was a mayor for six years before that Though of a pretty insignificant city (~7500 people).
Bonus points for Palin http://www.discussworldissues.com/im...ons/icon14.gif: The volatile issue of teaching creation science in public schools popped up in the Alaska governor's race this week when Republican Sarah Palin said she thinks creationism should be taught alongside evolution in the state's public classrooms. Palin was answering a question from the moderator near the conclusion of Wednesday night's televised debate on KAKM Channel 7 when she said, "Teach both. You know, don't be afraid of information. http://scienceblogs.com/afarensis/20...n_and_the_ala/ |
Mayor of 7000 people is more than Obama, McCain, or Biden can claim, as far as I know (which isn't far mind you). http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/smile.gif

I think the campaign is a pretty decent display of Obama's executive experience. Built a 1/3 billion dollar organization from scratch to defeat the biggest name and strongest force in the Democratic Party. Not too shabby, IMO. |
Great, another "maverick." I think I'm going to be sick.

The President's job, like a Presidential candidate's job, is largely to delegate responsibilities to smart, competent people (yes, like David Plouffe).

Hmmmm....interesting pick.
Not so sure I like it, but I will have to mull this one over. It does add some interesting dynamics to the campaigns though... |
This didn't take long ...

Sorry, a campaign is nothing like the presidency, or a governorship, or frankly even a mayor of a small town. It's a great accomplishment, I'm sure, but it's just not comparable. Public policy decisions are vastly different from the business-like decisions of running a campaign, and vastly more difficult and complex. Running a government bureaucracy is also quite a different thing than managing a few thousand volunteers and paid staffers and running media campaigns. So I guess you would disgaree with any claims by businesspeople that their executive experience makes them elligible to run something like a large City or a whole State? |

I'd say that it is inferior to actual public policy experience, yes. "eligible" is not the same as "highly qualified", however. You might forget that I grew up in New Mexico during the Gary Johnson years... I know exactly how unprepared a businessman can be for governing. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/smile.gif |
