Default Dubai's Moving skyscraper
I know a lot of you read BBC news, but I thought I'd post it anyway

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/mid...st/7472722.stm

How awesome is this, a skyscraper with levels that move 360 degrees...All powered by turbines between each level. In the article, it states that the skyscraper will produce enough power for the whole building, plus more to help power the city. Which is a brilliant idea for future skyscrapers [thumbup]

Probably one the of the best designs I've ever seen, when it is built it will be just incredible to see in real life

It's hard enough finding your way around after a bender, something like this would just make people go nuts [rofl]

The one thing they forgot to mention is that the architect has never built a skyscraper before and hasn't practised architecture regularly in decades.

So this should go very smoothly [thumbup]

How will the space between the floors collect a reasonable enough amount of wind to power both the building and provide excess power to the city grid?

I wonder how loud it will be when someone wants to rotate. That could be very annoying when someone wants to sleep![thumbdown]

And what's worse, you'll wake up thinking the room is spinning..... BECAUSE IT IS. [rofl]

Apparently you won't notice the building rotating or changing configuration, it's very slow. Kind of like most "revolving restaurants" on top of skyscrapers or TV towers.

Or the fact that he's lied about his credentials and degrees earned.

Smoothly indeed.[rolleyes]

I must admit, it seems cool and interesting in a quirky kind of way.

But all the while I'm thinking whats the point of this??

I think it would annoy me "working out" where my apartment is on a daily/weekly basis. Having to constantly look at signs/directions to find it.

But hey, I suppose it's one of those - we're building it, because we can type projects.

Why would you need to work out where your apartment was? They don't move, just spin.

There's a central column that doesn't spin.

There's a central column that doesn't spin.
Surely if the central column remains static (ie doesn't spin), then if the rooms/floor rotates around it - your entrance to your apartment moves also.

Let's say your apartment is represented by the red circle.

Beginning of the week it's there.

End of the week it is in that position.

If the lift/stairwell exit in the central column remains static, then your apartment is going to be in a different position.

Of course I am assuming that your apartment isn't the whole floor.

I can see the novelty wearing off after a while.
Nice to look at from the outside... but not all that practical.

Maybe I'm being too harsh or cynical!
