So our Cuba embargo worked! Thanks goodness Kennedy and Johnson and Nixon and Ford and Carter and Reagan and Bush and Clinton and Bush stayed the course; otherwise, who knows how long he might have stayed in power.

USA! USA! USA!

I doubt this means that we lift the embargo - which I never really understood anyways.

HAVANA - Ailing Cuban leader Fidel Castro said Tuesday that he will not return to lead the country as president, retiring as head of state 49 years after he seized power in an armed revolution.
so close to winning Tropic at the end of the 50 years... http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/frown.gif

Nothing. Canada will still accept Cuban political refugees while simultaniously encouraging its citizens to vacation there. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...s/confused.gif

Fidle Castro? What, the Devil went down to Cuba? http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ilies/wink.gif

I know Castro is no saint and has done some pretty bad things but in teh league of terrible dictators he is no where near the top.

Why does the US have such a problem with him.

I'm willing to bet that he won't last as long as Fidel.

mtautomoscow 02-19-2008 05:30 PM

Big YAWN!! Any intelligent person could see that his brother is already defacto leader and would continue to be regardless.

China has largely adopted market principles, however. Cuba is far from that -- indeed, even far from a beginning.

Why is it incumbent upon us to support Cuba's system with our hard-won commerce?

Why does the US have such a problem with him. 100,000 Cuban refugees in Florida all hate him.

And these 100,000 Cuban refugees not only can vote in the U.S., but they're the swing vote in Florida, which is a swing State.
