Language and the Character of Nations

You're ignoring dialectical considerations.

Nah, it's more the accent. Swiss French has more of a 'rural' sound to my ears than French French. Don't ask me about Quebecois French - I don't know what to say about it. And Spanish seem to have two speeds - native uberfast and the Spanish spoken with an non-native, which is considerably slower and more enunciated for the benefit of yon ignorant foreigner.

Do all of the various north american english accents sound more like each other than they sound like any accents elsewhere to those of you not from north america? I'm surprised by how often those accents seem to get lumped together.

Biharis sound Spiritual, Organised.

Hindi-speakers sound Spritual, Industrious.

Canadians sound like their heads are stuck up their arses.

(* not all of them, of course)

There are actually at least a dozen distinct and very different British accents, but none of them sound as rude and untidy as Polish, frog-phucker.

markshome23 04-26-2007 09:28 AM

And it seems the southern languages have a script based on ळ rather than ह.

himecthekWiff 04-26-2007 10:03 AM

They seem to love the hard ळ.

And please don't compare that character with any bodily organ.

German language sounds either as a beer-burping (southern version, especially what I've heard in western parts of Austria), sometimes demonic beer-burping

French sounds elegant, attempting to be subtle to the point of being gayish

British English sounds untidy and rude

Italian sounds nice, but what was said about French applies to it to a lesser extent

Arabic sounds different depending on where from is the one speaking and is he a boy or a girl. Lebanese dialect spoken by a girl sounds very nice. And Polish sounds gay too, but of course you already knew that. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...es/biggrin.gif
