It's a funny old scenario. Sometimes when I've had people around watching movies and they won't stop talking I've turned the movie off since they're not watching it. Then suddenly everybody protests, insisting that they were watching it.

My mother likes to go off and start vacuuming and cleaning, or optionally talking on the phone, during movies.

Maybe they didn't like the movie that much. I can imagine that. I prefer watching movies with one or two people, more than that and you do run the risk of people having more fun with eachother than they would just watching the movie.

The movie nights here usually consist of anywhere between 2-7 people, I'm actually pretty surprised how quickly everyone settles down and focuses on the movie instead of having fun with each other during the movie.

Sure, having a 105" screen HD projector at 720p helps with that and an amazing sound system, also it's important to have proper seating for everyone. If you only have stiff chairs that's not going to help, you gotta have the soft couches and make sure there's room for your invitees.

Default Why cant people watch movies?
Got a few mates around to watch some DVD's that they wanted to watch, but they spent most of the film messing around and chatting. Then every few minutes when something big happened on screen, they said whats going on, and literally they hadnt got a clue of the story!! I said, well if you watched the film and stopped messing around you would know! I just got a funny look, and they started messing around again! [rolleyes]

Personally if YOU INVITED THEM to watch movies with you then they need to respect your intentions of engrossing yourself in the film (which I like to do!) and if that gets interrupted then ask them to please be considerate and watch the movie...then open it up that afterwards we can talk about what was cool or not so cool in the film. Just a suggestion. Of course, if you are invited then understand that some people watch movies as if it is like an interactive environment that involves more than eyes and ears.

Just watch it on your own unless it's a horror or chickflick.
