Just a waterlily

Nymphaea lotus var. rubra - a 'wild' waterlily that blooms at night (flowers open late evening around 6pm through to the next morning, closes about 10am). Faint herbal scent.

That's a gorgeous flower, nicely photographed, and not "just a waterlily." Thanks for posting it.

Thanks, all http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/smile.gif

Thanasis, its actually an old water tank.

Yes, Eric, that's my bathtub http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ies/crazy2.gifhttp://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ilies/cool.gif

Dido, I don't grow from seedlings. This one grows a lot of offshoots on rhizomes and stolons so I use this method to propagate it.

David, there are day-blooming and night-blooming waterlilies. The largest waterlily in the world, Victoria amazonica, also is a night-bloomer. I read that they are pollinated by scarab beetles.

Nice! I had a few varieties of night-blooming Nymphaea in my pond last year. They have great colors.

Nice choice.
Almost got hooked on these after a trip to Longwood Gardens.

very nice. i've seen water lilies at longwood gardens that have such large leaves, a small person could sit on one and it would keep floating
