Default Mayweather vs. Ortiz
I think it is going to be all Mayweather keeping distance and tiring Ortiz out. Ortiz will be over-anxious and empty his tank. If Ortiz does not get a few early, solid shots: Mayweather by decision.

What do you think?

Also, anyone see 24/7 for this fight? Mayweather is very capable of annoying people.

Fly like a butterfly stink like a bee.. that's Mayweather. The guy is a beast. And there is nobody right now that can beat him.

Stink like a bee?

Mayweather is a good fighter no doubt but he doesn't fight regularly enough and this will not be a walk in the park. I think he'll win but it will be hard fought, possible point decision over 12.

Sergio Martinez would be equal to him right now but he probably wont fight him as he's too high in the rankings.

Amir Khan has the speed to trouble him and has made light work of some very tough opponents of late, Pacquiao would trouble the lord incarnate if he got into the ring with him.

TKO Mayweather.

Ortiz showed absolutely astonishing strength and speed versus Berto (I had figured Berto to win, BTW), and he looked huge relative to previous fights, but I don't think he is mentally ready for Mayweather's skill. Berto and Ortiz were both question marks going into their fight but Mayweather's no question mark. Berto v. Ortiz was a brawl, which worked to both fighters' strengths but Mayweather will put on a show of skill that Ortiz cannot cope with. I think he will dishearten and wear down Ortiz, and then score a TKO.

If we could freeze Mayweather in time and put Ortiz up against him in a couple years, maybe then Ortiz could win. He's got a very bright future, IMO.

Ditto. Though Jose Aldo would be a better match up.

Sucker Punch.
Yep. Fight wasn't restarted and the ref started counting like a moron to make it look like he was on top of things.

That's boxing these days though. Bunch of old men in all the important positions that cannot do their jobs right.

That said they were a pair of bitches. That headbutt from Ortiz looks like something you'd see in Glasgow on a Saturday night.

Mayweather doesnt deserve that win, I know he would have won anyways but to sucker punch the opponent and claim "guard at all times" is pure BS. Ortiz did show good sportsmanship and didnt make any excuses.

Ive never liked mayweather much but the guy is damn skilled....I hope a pac vs mayweather happens and pac beats his ass.

The fight was restarted. Ortiz had it coming to him for being an idiot. Headbutting out of frustration and apologizing a third time after the fight had already been restarted.

Agreed - not so much a 'sucker' punch as a 'shut up, you idiot' punch!
No need to talk about being on guard at all times, etc, it was a perfectly legit nockout.

Reminded me of when Mayweather popped Mosley in his mouth when he was running it in the later rounds of his last fight, funny as hell.

Exactly!

In fact, immediately after the fight, I found that clip to show the folks at my place that this was similar to the Mosley fight. I believe that Mosley hit him in the back of the head and was apologizing.

It may be legal, but it is poor sportsmanship.

"Protect yourself at all times." - Ortiz didn't do that.

Besides a deliberate head-butt is a far worse thing to do, most people seem to forget that Mayweather had just had his lip split open from a deliberate head-but, the cut looked bad enough that the ref may have ended up stopping the fight, after Ortiz had pounded on it a few more rounds. Which would have made an even more shitty ending. As it was, i found it very entertaining, controversial, but great to watch. [rofl]

Finally got around to watching this. Mayweather is such a classless piece of ****, but Ortiz was a complete idiot for not protecting himself. The entire thing is completely ridiculous, almost exactly like wrestling. Ortiz was the baby face and Mayweather was the heal. I don't buy any of it. The sport has long since circling the bowl, which was made evident by the equally horrible HBO special that was done afterwards.

Boxing will never be as big as it used to be sadly, even a Paq vs Mayweather fight would not get the numbers the WWE and MMA get nowadays.

Boxing is still way too big for such a boring sport. Make way for MMA and kickboxing!
