Many of the modern (1950s and after) Greek-style stephana were made with a thick-gauge wire ring as a base, over which was wound a thinner-gauge paper-covered or fabric-covered wire. Wired fabric flowers resembling lemon blossom were also inserted into this covering wire as it was wound over the base wire. A broad white satin ribbon about a metre long and 2-2.5 cm wide should also be incorporated into the wreaths, linking the two.
Lemon blossom has long been symbolic of weddings in Greek folk custom. Many folk songs mention lemon trees in bloom as metaphors for finding a spouse. |

Thank you all for your suggestions. Shortly after we posted, my daughter came across the sage and chocolate blog Georgina recommended and has been able to form a nice base with willow - I think she's planning to pretty much follow the blogger's directions. I will mention the lemon blossom to her as well though Olga.
Thanks again. |
