WTF - UK police arrest man over Twitter insult
This is fricken crazy.
Jul 31, 3:16 AM EDT UK police arrest man over Twitter insult http://analytics.apnewsregistry.com/...6Z/E/prod/AT/A LONDON -- Police say a man has been arrested in connection to Twitter postings directed at British Olympic diver Tom Daley. Daley's father died of brain cancer a year ago and the 18-year-old Olympian had hoped win a medal "for myself and my dad." But he finished fourth on Monday in the 10-meter synchronized platform with teammate Pete Waterfield. Afterward, a Twitter user sent him several negative messages, including: "You let your dad down i hope you know that." Dorset Police said early Tuesday that a 17-year-old man was arrested at a guest house in Weymouth "on suspicion of malicious communications" in relation to Twitter threats made against Daley. In Britain, tweeting messages considered menacing can lead to prosecution. |
Whoa. I don't know whether to laugh or . . . I guess I just don't know whether to laugh or not.
I wonder if the inventors of twitter ever thought their service would be getting people detained at the airport for a joke, kicked out of the olympics for a joke, or arrested for a few cruel words. Craziness, I tell ya. |
If people learn anything from all this twitter drama is that there is NO freedom of speech..
