Default McLaren's Latest Trick
Didn't see this posted here, so all you F1 fans will prolly find this interesting. According to an Italian site, Honda has found an undocumented "feature" from the ECU McLaren, which they supply to all teams in 2008. The source says that by pressing certain 3 buttons in the right order, the ECU goes into a new mode which is similar to the launch control. The launch control is not allowed this season, for those who don't follow the rules in F1.

Any thoughts? If this is true, what will FIA do about it and what will happen to McLaren? They are already in some big trouble with FIA about the "Ferrari Incident"..

Yeah, considering that they are in court for having Ferrari's blueprints.. As I said, if this is true then McLaren is in big trouble!

Cheers,

now would be a good time to be pround of mclaren, a british team, as they're hitting some form. its difficult though if they keep doing things like this.

The FIA and Ferrari have already admitted to a "intimate" relationship which, IMO, is the main reason for the BS last year - Ferrari's cheating being barely acknowledged.

As for undocumented sub-routines, I suspect this is also BS as I would expect any race team finding it to keep quiet and make use of the 'feature.

Unless of course they only just found out about it Gordo. Realising other teams knew about it from the beginning and designed their car around it, they are crying foul as they are behind in the design timeline.

Yup, I admit to being rather cynical about the whole F1/FIA thing and, from what I read, so are the teams (with the exception, naturally, of Ferrari).
Mosley is doing a pretty good job of screwing things up and I'm a little surprised Bernie is letting him get away with it.

I'll still keep watching it but, TBH, I find the A1 is a darned sight more interesting and exciting as any of the top dozen teams has a chance of winning - plus the carnage is a lot of fun.

It was always gonna be an issue with McLarens Electronic divisons developing this ECU, the reason being the rest of the teams have done nothing but bitch and moan... the ECU is a weird shape! We didn't design for that! The software has hidden routines designed to benefit McLaren!

I heard of another secret combo, CTRL ALT DEL! It resets the ECU! Apparently only ECU's supplied to Ferrari have this feature the Italian media have discovered....

Hell if I was Ferrari I'd be happy, for the team's without it, getting a BSOD could be race ending
