Gasoline rule: TRUE OR MYTH
That's it! Call in the Myth Busters. I can't take it any more.
Let me just put it this way... You want to fill a Corolla's tank with $15 of 87 octane gas.Valero is selling 87 oct. gas for $3.20. Cheveron is selling 87 oct. for $3.25. Now despite Valero being cheaper, their gas is used up faster by your car. Chevron's gasoline on the other hand lasts longer[ i.e. used up slower]. Thus you have to come back and buy more gas sooner if you go to Valero. Is this true or just a myth? |
Different distributor additives yield different fuel consumptions ... seems plausible enough to me.

One of the mags here ran tests to prove this. Generally fuel bought from supermarkets gave less mileage than that from proper suppliers. BP, Shell etc.
Also higher octane fuel gives better mileage, so could be worth the premium. Think it could be anything upto 10% better |
