Why do people manually sort their music? Play list and or let the player organise things with the tags, editing only as needed (sometimes I'll edit artist when it a co-op to match the album artist). ![]() and I don't trust any program to organize it efficiently...because they don't, **especially iTunes...POS. Now I don't have to deal with that crapfest since I got my Zune finally...[thumbup] |

I need to figure out how to do mine, since I'm tired of the mess I'e had in my music folder until now.
I've already tagged everything properly, but no I need to figure out what to do with indidual folders. Should I create a separate folder for each artists and keep this artists albums in that folder, or simply create a folder for each album and keep them all in one directory? |

First it matters what software you use to rip: some have more options than others when it comes to tag information. I use dbPowerAMP CD Ripper.
Because of dBPowerAMP and/or of Vista, you can sort by artist name which is pulled from the ID3 tag info. So there is no need to have it in the filename, and thus makes it easier to locate specific music. For albums with one album artist: M:\Music\Electronica\Armin van Buuren\A State of Trance 2006 [Disc 1 of 2]\01.Halcyon.flac For multiple-disc albums with more than one album artist (a compilation) M:\Music\Electronica\The Essential TRANCE Collection\Blue Amazon - Disc 1 of 6\01.Roaches.flac I use folders to sort my music. This way filenames are short and easy to manage when looking through them as a list. I always use tag information: and I always have them embedded. |
