A WA Liberal MP has claimed Australians are unknowingly being converted to Islam by eating Halal meat.

In a speech to Parliament yesterday, backbencher Luke Simpkins said most Australians did not know that most of the meat they ate came from animals killed in accordance with Muslim law.

“By having Australians unwittingly eating Halal food we are all one step down the path towards the conversion, and that is a step we should only make with full knowledge and one that should not be imposed upon us without us knowing,” Mr Simpkins told Parliament.

“What is happening is wrong. Too often the minorities in this country are looked after without regard to the majority.”

Mr Simpkins said he had carried out an unofficial survey in his northern-suburbs electorate of Cowan and had discovered that most meat at major chains such as Coles or Woolworths had been killed under Halal conditions, but had not been labelled as such.

He tabled a petition demanding that all Halal meat be clearly identified, complaining people could not buy meat for their “Aussie barbecue” without the influence of the “minority religion”.

Mr Simpkins said that Mohammed the prophet of Islam had talked of how the religion could be expanded around the world by getting people to eat Halal meat.

“He reportedly said, ‘The non-believers will become Muslims when, amongst other things, they eat the meat that we have slaughtered’. This is one of the key aspects to converting non-believers to Islam,” Mr Simpkins said.

The petition tabled by Mr Simpkins had been organised by the Barnabas Fund, an organisation that supports Christians living in Muslim countries.

Immigration Minister Chris Bowen said Opposition Leader Tony Abbott should pull Mr Simpkins into line. “All members of Parliament should be looking to promote understanding and harmony between religions. Mr Simpkins has done the complete opposite,” he said. Link @ the Age

Did you know most meat you buy from the supermarket is Halal? For the meat to be halal it has to be slaughtered in accordance to Islamic beliefs which means slitting the throat of the animal whilst its still alive which only can be done by a muslim. If you buy Halal meat you are supporting this inhuman method of killing animals and also supporting Islam. Steps you can take to stop muslims controlling your meat is to ask your supermarket is the meat Halal? If they say yes refuse to buy it.


Please let people know about this as muslims make up 20% of the worlds population and they have no rights to dictate to the other 80% how their meat is handled.

Slaughtering that way falls under the 1st amendment freedom of religion, don't like it shop else where or produce your own.

Many big commercially grown animals live in horrid conditions a good portion of their lives but little ruckus is made about that.

What I think is interesting, a lot of times Muslims can/will eat Kosher meat as a substitute to Halal as the animals are prepared in the same manner.

You would think that most of the Western world would be Jewish by now with all the Kosher crap we consume/eat.

I think that the reason that a muslim would think that halal meat could convert others, is that first of all they think that their religion is right and anyone with a clear head should see that. Second, to kill the animal by slitting the throat properly ends its life before it knows what happened, no time for fear or stress, so those hormones are not dumped into the bloodstream (which is drained soon after as well.) The meat also goes through a more rigorous inspection than non halal/kosher meat. So from that they conclude that better quality meat with less toxins or disease, will give a person a clear head, and they'll see the islam is the obvious correct choice.

Slitting the throat has been shown to be advantagous over some of the other slaughter methods used today. The real advantage, however, was probably in the past. They couldn't shoot or electrically stun an animal a few centuries ago, so slitting the throat was the only painless method of slaughter and would have resulted in better meat.

Certainly a pneumatic slug should be faster, but slitting the throat is very fast too, and the adrenaline is mainly released into the blood stream, from the adrenal gland, and since the blood is drained, I don't think it has bad effect on the meat. Between the two methods I think it is way more important the level of stress the animal is in prior to the killing. In an industrial type of slaughter I can't see how the animal can't be stressed. No matter the killing method...
