When I was a teenager, there weren't even any proper multiplayer games.

Multiplayer meant spending an hour trying to connect Red Alert over IPX/SPX and **** 28k modem while your mum shouts at you because you're blocking the telephone line.

And C&C over a serial cable.

I hit 18 just as broadband was becoming available and as soon as I was 18 had dialup until BT kicked me off because I abused it too much. Then got NTL installed and never looked back as I raped all the 300ms pingers on UK2 CS servers and was able to join EC US servers at ~100ms when UK servers died out for the night.

Well I'm from '79, and my first multiplayer experience was the game CivNet. It took us just as long to connect the two PCs with the serial cable as we spent time with playing the game.

Oh, and bringing the PC + 19" CRT monitor over to your friends house with your bicycle was part of the fun. [thumbup]
