Japan 8.9 Earthquake

I'm amazed no-one has posted this. Japan is getting it's arse kicked by mother nature.

Hope everyone is ok. Saw the first tidal wave hit the land. Such destructive power[shocked]. And the second rolled over as if there was no land there.

Hope it passes soon, makes the earthquake that hit NZ look small in comparison.

Link below shows live coverage.

Australia only...

Officials said a wave could be as high 10m (33ft). Numerous casualties are feared. According to the link I posted (sorry, did not know it was Australian only), the guy in the helicopter said waves as high as 7+m have been detected and 4+m hitting the land.

Bloody hell!
Just turned the TV on to find live coverage - horrible, horrible thing for them to have happen.
Makes out little shake look like hiccups.

Isn't Xeoblaze in Japan [surrender]

Hope he's safe.

tabcdyop 11-03-2011 03:54 PM

Have been watching the live coverage since just after it started happening. Inside one of the building you could see it shake and everything was all over the place. They showed a camera on the outside of the entire city shaking (could have just been the camera shaking) however, it was insane.

But the tsunami, that was incredible. Apparently it may hit places like Russia and Hawaii.

tabcdyop 11-03-2011 03:58 PM

In Japan they have messages like...

PACIFIC COAST OF AOMORI PREF. (*2) #10m or more
IWATE PREF. (*2) 10m or more
MIYAGI PREF. (*2) 10m or more

Arrival times for various places of a tsunami...

PHILIPPINES PALANAN 17.1N 122.6E 0955Z 11 MAR
PAPUA NEW GUINE MANUS_IS. 2.0S 147.5E 1124Z 11 MAR
COOK ISLANDS PUKAPUKA_IS. 10.8S 194.1E 1452Z 11 MAR
NEW ZEALAND AUCKLAND(W) 37.1S 174.2E 1814Z 11 MAR

That is crazy. Have fun surfing Gordohttp://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...es/tongue1.gif. No but seriously, this isn't looking good.

EDIT: One death already reported.

thehhhyips 11-03-2011 04:16 PM

With the distance, and way it's expected to hit, it shouldn't be much here - but near Japan, it's going to be bad - hopefully they're getting enough notice.
Having seen the local flooding, I expect the damage and death toll is going to be high, judging by the amount of vehicles and buildings being washed out to sea.
They're showing a set of four or five waves heading into areas that are already awash!

That oil refinery fire is immense!

North of Australia might even get hit early tomorrow morning apparently. I think theres warningd for all of the Pacific basin coasts.

Not good at all.

The Tsunami could reach many other countries as well. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ilies/cry1.gif

http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/...l/7467372.html

HONOLULU — A tsunami warning issued by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Hawaii after a large earthquake in Japan was widened beyond East Asia late Thursday to include Hawaii, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico and Central and South America and the rest of the Pacific Ocean.

The fire is apparently in a turbine room, more of a worry is reports that one of the nuclear power stations are having trouble with the reactor cooling system - nothing leaked yet, but a concern.
The 'whirlpool' looks quite large, but it looks more like a gentle eddy.
Hate think what the final toll will be, so many seem to be caught completely by surprise by the tsunamis, motorists driving along roads as they water washes over them.
Give you a whole new perspective on the last big tsunami event, and how so many were killed by it - it just doesn't seem to stop, ploughing through and over everything in it's path!

The western coast of the continental North America looks like they may have problems, esp Alaska, Canada and a bit of the US. Rather unpleasant reminder of what's building up as basically the entire west of the Americas has a major offshore fault line. Rather scary.

The wave just GOES and takes everything with it! It was even so close that there was probably no way to warn anyone in time.

AnriXuinriZ 11-03-2011 07:55 PM

just watched a car spin around and really motor away from the wave - family saloon type and the driver is really going for it , dont know what happens to the card behind him as teh camera pans away
