Jokes aside, what's the resolution and colour like on it?
Seriously impressive. Not *quite* as good as the professional Eizo we have but that cost about twice as much.

Aah, consumer level no, but the Eizo we have slightly pips it I'd say. Response time isn't very good on that though.

You can get a 27" glossy LED backlit IPS from Hazro for about £450... I think it uses the same LG IPS panel as the apple as well..

Found it !

Dunno if it's the exact one that uses the same Lg panel as the Apple 27" but it pretty nice and like half the price.

If that thing can ever seriously be considered in the same ballpark as (or even close to) an Eizo CE or NEC PA Series monitor, it will be the day some folks start comparing an iPhone camera to a DSLR, and the design industry will spontaneously implode!

That said, for what it is and how much you spend it's an awesome piece of kit. I only wish some of the ref monitors came with that style and price. Oh god how I wish! [rofl]

Or the older but awesome 90 series by NEC. I'm looking for a 2nd one to match my main LCD2490 but it's difficult finding one nowadays :/

Were they 8-bit or 10-bit panels, the 90 series ones?

sadly, both from a quality and response time standpoint this display has not yet been surpassed

8-bit panels I think. My favorite feature of the original 90 series (not found in the 90 v2 or PA series) is the A-TW polarizer because it reduces the IPS off-angle glow to a great degree. Also the ColorComp function, which makes the screen's luminance super uniform is awesome. If the PA series had the A-TW polarizer I would buy one right away.

Aside from response time I think the 20WMGX2 has been easily surpassed, for example the 90-series or PA-series also by NEC.

Are those expensive pro displays or ones on consumer level?

The 20wgx2 cost me £370 about 4 years ago and has a s-ips screen with a-tw polarizer. Quite a lot for a 20" 1680x1050 screen! It is a great screen for gaming because it has excellent image quality combined with really fast response times.

Except for the fact that it is a bit small it is difficult to find a monitor with better IQ imo...

I purchased a HP LP2475w a few weeks ago expecting it to be better and it was significantly worse! So I jsut sent it back to the shop...

I havnt tried the hazro ones but they seem quite good value for money... but my recomendation is if you can get a NEC IPS screen with A-TW polarizer then get it you wont regret it! Sadly I dont think a lot of screens, even from nec, have a TW polarizer anymore so you get that nasty shinyness over blacks.. so look for one of the older models with a a-tw polarizer

Also 10 bit panels are largely pointless because you need the whole path to be 10bit eg. graphics card > operating system, software > monitor and that is extremely rare unless you do photo editing / graphics work etc.
