Default Any sweet laptop deals this week ? (USA/CAN)
Hello everyone, after getting my income tax I was planning to buy a used MSI GX640 (15.6",i5-430m, Mobility 5850 1gb, 4Gb ram, 500Gb 7200rpm drive) but after seeing on the news that the canadian dollar is worth 1.044 USD these days, I was wondering what are good online places to shop for laptops in the US of A ?

The price for the used laptop is 800$ CAD, still under 2 yr warranty, with targus bag and an extra battery to boot. Wich I think is quite good (hard to beat ?) but just hoping to know if there's a super mega sweet short time offer somewhere on the www.

Thanks and btw you'll love BF3

$800 US is around $800 CAD these days right?

16F2 barebone

You will have to find a cheap CPU/mem/HDD/wireless.

However it will give you a platform to upgrade.

Advantages:

1080p LED backlit screen
Second Gen I7 support
4 mem slots (when using a quad core)
Much better audio quality
Triple heatpipe GPU cooling (vs 1 in the 640)
2 HDD slots (SATA3 vs SATA2)
Less gaudy colours
Better keyboard
USB3 support
Higher build quality

Thanks but :

It looks much more expensive from what I gathered quickly

I don't fancy a 1080p display (requires less horsepower to drive 1680x1050)

I dont' need 4 mem slots, and I will remove the dvd tray to install a 2nd ssd in the MSI GX640

I have found a great mod tutorial that I will do on the GX640 if I do get it :

hmmmm ! [thumbup]

But thanks for your time in writing all this.

Yeah hmm for all I know you might be my seller lol. But I do think so too, I dont know if the prices I saw on the net were reliable but I calculated that if I was to buy that model new today it would cost me 1300$ counting taxes.

I'm not

By the way, Lenovo Canada has a great deal right now.

Lenovo Ideapad Y570
Core i7-2630QM (2.00GHz quad-core/eight-thread)
Windows 7 Home Premium x64
Nvidia Geforce GT 555M 1GB
8GB PC3-8500 DDR3
15.6" 1366x768 LCD
750 GB HDD
Blu-ray/DVD Combo Drive
Intel 1000 BGN Wireless
Bluetooth 2.1+EDR
6 Cell Battery

$1072 Taxes included.

Or you can get the Core i5-2410M (2.3-2.9Ghz dual-core/four-thread), 6GB of RAM, regular DVD-RW for $739 + tax.

You need to know the special URL though

pretty good for the 8Gb and cpu but I think I just read that the 555M sucked, unless it has an mxm slot..

Based on everything that I've read, the GeForce GT 555M is marginally faster than the Mobility Radeon HD 5850.

The only 555m to be in an MXM slot is in the MSI with 144 shaders and GDDR5. (its basically a 460M with some memory chips removed, a few shaders deactivated and clocked lower.

Thanks for your input but I think I will stick to my plan of buying this GX640, then maybe pop in an i7-720qm if I'm not satisfied with the performance.

Now I have the money but the seller is out of town gaaaah [cursing]

I'd wait a bit longer and wait for the back to school deals to begin. That's when laptops sell at pretty low prices and it's pretty much just around the corner (starts from August). Best Buy/Futureshop/NCIX/Canada Computers/etc. will have some stellar deals.

Great price for sure but shipping is 140$ wich brings it to 840$, plus this offer only has 90 days MSI warranty (wonder why tough) and for 800$ I have the same laptop with 2yr warranty, an extra battery and a cool targus bag (selling for 70$ on targus's website).

Still, thanks for taking the time to help me find a better deal I appreciate it.
