Every once in a while I make a mistake and watch the news on t.v. or listen to it on the radio, and I am stumped by the stupid things that seem to happen in society or in government. I sometimes think to myself, "What would I do if I could be the "Big Boss" and change anything I wanted?" This is your chance! Tell us what you would change if you had the chance for a day (assume that the change would be binding until the next 'day' whenever that came around...)

Good one, Shiva! Mine would be along the same lines. Everyone would need to take responsibility for their actions, not blame others or "the system". We've fostered a culture where nobody wants to be responsible anymore. It's always someone else's fault. Some shapeless, nameless, entity called They. |

I'd destroy all firearms worldwide as well as all weapons of death and mass destruction along with any subsequent desire to create them again. I might consider allowing the tools of archery to remain. Doing this, however, would require the possession of powers of deity for a day, powers which would theoretically far exceed those of simply being king or queen for a day.

I would instill a deep respect for nature in every person alive so that one morning wall street big whigs, corporate CEO's, and general enemies of the earth everywhere would wake up one morning and say "man I've really been doing a number on our planet to line my pockets, I should really think of some new ways to make that right and protect what we have." It would be something like the morning Ebenizer Scrooge woke up and realized he was a total ass and went about making ammends and changing his ways, I think that would clear up a lot of problems.

Better beer and wine for everyone will go a long way. Good food too. And not too much work. Get production levels down and we can all relax a bit. Decrease retail output, focus on making food at the community level, drop unnecessary consumption....
Man, sounds like I'm against growth based economies! Stop chasing objects and start chasing life and you won't have to worry too much about war, politics, and money. And always remember, "a friend in need, is a friend indeed." |
