Australia was looking into doing something similar but I think it failed, probably because they wanted to go over-kill with it (3 strikes and blacklisted from every ISP plus BIG fine).

Maybe it was something to do with the mandatory filter? I can't remember anymore.

Kinda feel sorry for you blokes in the US, Copyrighting is MASSIVE worldwide. I don't see a problem with it so long as you state who the original owner is and don't claim it as your own.

Or are they talking about movies?

How the eff are they going to enforce this? This looks like lip service more than any actual threat. It will be very interesting to see them unlock pass worded rars to prove they are illegal.

That shouldnt be too hard to do at all. Passwords are posted right in the forums for everyone to see.

Which is not that easy for an ISP to see or filter. CP on the net would no longer exist if IP's could so easily monitor the traffic. My guess is this is only a threat to really heavy torrent uploaders and downloaders who by their very high usage get the notice of the IP's. Jimmy down the street who downloads the latest disney song once a month has little to worry about.

i can see software growing exponentially to handle filtering all content, especially now that the gauntlet has been thrown down and the wheels spun in motion by the big isp providers.

Is that a joke? Here in Australia when they tried to introduce the mandatory internet filter, a crap load of ISPs including some of Australia's largest were completely against it and made it very clear to the public and the government.

I am sure the same would be in the US. The ISPs would have to buy or upgrade equipment and have to consume more resources into the monitoring process which tends to cost a lot of money. ISPs don't like spending money, except the monopoly type ISPs.

In general, I'm in favour of copyright, as in general people have put time and money into the product BUT I can't possibly agree with the draconian and reprehensible actions taken in many, even most, cases.
