I'm not so sure this is about being impolite as it is that pretty much every cellphone now has a video camera on it that can illegal record the movie(if you have a big enough memory card)

That seems a bit more logical to me than "it annoys other people"

Surely that's what it is?
They may be sponsored because of that reason but I don't think that was their initial thought about their idea. They probably just wanted a decent cinema where people doesn't need to be afraid that their experience can be ruined.

I completely agree that it's rude and like nacho said apart of the reasons I stay away from cinemas. I would certainly pay a visit to that cinema just because of their policy if I happened to be in the neighbourhood.

they do not make sd cards that large. at least not large enough to make it worth your time quality wise.

I can tolerate phones to an extent. What I cannot stand is people who talk all the way through, or family's who let their kids make a load of noise. The last time that happened when I was with my old man watching a film, I shouted out "Shut up!!" to the kids in the corner. They went silent for the rest of the movie.

I see 32gb micro SD cards across the street at the computer store? That is more than enough to record a movie with a 720p camcorder much less a crappy quality camera phone. The reduction in audio quality alone would save a ton of space.

Obviously the recording wouldn't be ideal but if you were really desperate you could do it and then upload it online or show it to friends or whatever. I'm sure a lot of people do.

Yep, my Thunderbolt came with a 32gig SD card, and I just opened the camera app to see that it estimated it could record over 6 hours in 720p.

How is it rude to text in a cinema?! Everyone does it here and you bother no-one with it
I find it annoying if the person in front of you or near you is texting; it's distracting. Especially now that smart phones have huge screens and are really bright. Not every scene in a movie is bright, and if you happen to be watching a dark movie then it's even more annoying.
Talkers we all agree need to shutup, but too many people think that as long as their phone is silent they can text away. I pay to go to a movie so I can sit in the dark and not have any distractions while I watch. Considering that the theatre specifically asks that people to turn their phones off then I expect at least not use your phone unless it was an emergency.

I'm actually surprised there are people defending this. I wonder if they are the same people who defend texting while driving. It's distracting enough seeing people do it while driving, but to actually be the one doing it, it's no wonder so many people die.

But seriously, nothing like watching a great movie only to see a flash of light in front of you, very distracting, mobile phones are usually brighter then the screen, it's also far worse when watching a movie with lots of dark areas, it's like someone is using a godamned flashlight in the cinema.

I also don't understand how people can miss all the bloody warning signs, even before the movie on the big screen in BIG WRITING AND LOUD VOICES it tells you to NOT USE YOUR PHONE AND SWITCH IT OFF OR ONTO SILENT.

For those who do it in Australia. YES, I'M THE ONE THROWING POPCORN AT YOU.
