Unfortunately, my ability to get things to expose themselves is diminishing.

The natives aren't having it. The military brats aren't having it. No one wants it, it is like a line at an abortion clinic.

Oh, and the rest of the 90% of people here are military dudes that yell from their cars and pass on the right.

For anyone interested in going, I would suggest skipping Oahu altogether. Oahu (sans the North Shore) is just a touristy, bland, white-people tropics. Warning: Jack Johnson lives in the North Shore.

The four days that I spent in Kauai were the high-points. Hiking, snorkeling, dining, etc. pretty much what you would expect in Hawaii.

Now, I am in Dulles, VA. Back in the nasty ****ing cold weather.

Agree on that.
We spent a day in Honolulu when we went just because we needed to "have seen it". But clearly Maui and Kauai were the highlights. Maui for the nice weather and Kauai for the lush tropical and beautiful nature.

If I ever go there again, I'd probably check out Big Island.

Anyone ever been to Hawaii?

I got sick of the weather (in the North-East US) so I bought tickets to Honolulu for a few weeks.

Has anyone ever been? Any must-sees? What about restaurants, bars, beaches, hotels, resorts, etc?

I know I want to go snorkeling, surfing and jet-skiing. Any recommendations?

I dated a Hawaiian chick over here, based on her alone I am going to say: Very much, yes.

How can I get ahold of Beau Bridges? Does he use the Internet?

I'm planning to go there on honeymoon but haven't looked in to anything yet. If you could let us know how it went, I'd be grateful.

I'm fairly confident that what will expects from Hawaii will be monumentally different from what you expect from Hawaii.

I went to Maui and the Big Island for my honeymoon a few years back. It was absolutely beautiful. Maui was much better IMO. We spent most of our time in Lahaina, the restaurants were excellent and not at all what I expected. Everything is open of course so you always feel like you are sitting outside.

People warned us about how expensive everything was, but honestly the prices were similar to here (Michigan). Beer and drinks were all the same price.

One of the best things we did while there was go on a bike trip down Haleakala volcano. If you can find a similar thing I'd recommend it.

Also, don't forget a luau. I think we paid $90 a person, but that included free drinks, an all you can eat feast with incredible food and an awesome show.

Honolulu, Oahu is much more developed from what I have heard. I'm sure it still has the same kind of things as Maui though.

Have fun on your trip!

Edit: Oh and some of the best things we did involved just driving around and exploring. There were tons of places to stop and walk through the jungle to some waterfall or other site. Walking along and sitting by the ocean at night too was awesome. I was surprised how much we enjoyed watching sea life. Sounds stupid, but we had such an awesome time.

One resort we stayed at had a balcony built over top the shore line. Looking down we could see eels, turtles, fish etc. I think we sat one night with drinks watching an eel eat fish for about 6 hours.

I've been to the Big Island, Oahu, Kaua'i, and Maui and I have to say my favorite was probably Kaua'i for scenery, they don't call it the "Garden Island" for nothing. It's like being in Crysis or Far Cry-in real life. [thumbup]

You want the big tourist stores and shops, seek out Waikiki Beach in Honolulu. Food prices to the max, an ABC store around each corner, people everywhere. Pearl Harbor in Oahu is a must for any history buff. It's a beautiful city but there are too many cars, I think Hawaii has more cars per capita than any other state in the union. There's also an interstate system here, which connects to California & Alaska. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ies/laugh1.gif

You seek less people but a similar idea, Kona or Hilo on the Big Island. Want to visit the desert? Hawaii Volcanos National Park on the Big Island is absolutely incredible, you simply must go there if you go to the Big Island. There can be jungle all around, then ten seconds later you're in pure desert. In the southeast corner of the island, lava flows pour constantly and a reminder that the island is still growing.

As for Maui, the most beautiful beaches in the world and plenty of tourist attractions. You're probably looking to go to beachside bars and enjoy the sights, well look no further.
