Netherlands Carnifail 2011

Great. 4+ days of drunk people in stupid unoriginal cheap-ass crappy costumes. My office is right on the main street in town, so the chances of me getting any actual work done on Mon + Tues is slim. To call it a carnival is stretching the truth somewhat IMO.

Anything north of the rivers is just pathetic.

ExelePlavisseu 05-04-2011 02:16 AM

Here in Nadur we have a real spontaneous carnival, macabre and all.

No rubbish commercial halloween-like bullshit.

The good thing about carneval... EVERYBODY gets a girl to f**k. At least here in the Rhineland. Never heard a "no" during these days. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/cool1.gif

Isn't a Carnival supposed to be a festival where everything is upside down and vice versa, the Clown is a King and the King hauls dung, a "Yes" means "No" and a "No" means "Yes"!? http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...es/tongue1.gif [xmasthumbup]

Chris, you been drinking a beer and dressed up like a old Englishman yet? http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ies/laugh1.gif

Or do you dislike everything in our country besides money and your Dutch wife? http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...es/tongue1.gifhttp://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...es/tongue1.gifhttp://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...es/tongue1.gifhttp://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ies/laugh1.gif

Carnival in the Netherlands?

Isn't it against International law to have that many ugly women celebrating Carnival? I thought that is why it is predominately a South American festival.

I hope the UN bombs you.

No carnival in the north [thumbup]

have u ever seen howmuch he complains about NL ?

It may be a good guy, but heck.... very little positive things. I think he should move as being the outsider he is. He dont even try to speak Dutch, yet collects money, married some bozo and get expensive holidays and items.

Guess in UK he'd be f*cked in job career.

RozzyLiu 06-04-2011 01:28 AM

My wife is from a village near to Hilversum, so carnival is alien to her too.

Seriously though - I like The Netherlands very much. Could I get the same type of job in the UK? Yes. Do I like the UK? Not really. I have no love for the UK - especially after having been screwed over with respect to my Army career.

As far as The Netherlands is concerned, there is not much I don't like, with the possible exception of the non-existent customer service. Well - sometimes its good, then it makes you all the more appreciative!

I'm not here because I can earn more money. I'm here because I like the country, I love my wife, and I wanted to get the heck out of the UK for a whole host of reasons (one of which I've mentioned above).

I understand better, but you should not kill carnaval... It's a important valve for a whole lot of people. Just suck it up.

Speak dutch man.. try to speak it. You gain a whole lot of points. ( and I am not a PVV guy! )

Come on mate - carnival these days is just about getting drunk for 4 days, nothing more than that. I would not even mind that so much if at least people were polite about it.....

As for the Dutch lanugauge - not really got a choice now with a little one on the way [rofl] My work will also pay for Dutch lessons which is good. The main problem though is time. I very much want to have some lessons, but my work is so busy its stupud. After 50+ hours a week its hard to try and fit in some language lessons. After being here for several years I do understand a lot - its just that speaking Dutch is quite hard, plus people always speak back in English!

Regardless, it's not good bedside manner to live in someone else's country and complain about their customs / culture.

It's like going to a dinner party and complaining about the food.
