Default Yasi - Be scared, very scared of this storm
I hear air fares out of Cairns have gone through the roof. Queensland gets clobbered by floods and now this. Huge clean up needed. I think the flood levy is a good idea even though I am going to be hit with it.

I'm hoping for a snow day or two. I'm scheduled to travel this afternoon through to Friday.

Speaking of storms, Slow... where are you in regards to this big blizzard about to hit?
It's here. 18 degrees currently with north winds of 20 mph, with gusts to 35. Ice on the ground. All schools closed and many businesses. Even light rail is closed.

Wife just told me that some of her Aussie relatives live in Cairns. Last FB update is "We are staying and are going to wait it out.". I hope I hear from them by morning.

Nature's revenge for the Aussies (QLDers being the worst offenders) voting down Kevin Rudd's climate change bill...

If only they had passed it. Climate change would be a thing of the past.
We all know that it's not as easy as flicking off a switch.

It is ironic that one of the countries most susceptible to the effects of climate change in the world is also one of the worst culprits...

So you actually support the deaths of a bunch of random Australians because some Australians oppose legislation you're in favor of? Doesn't that make you a terrorist?
I don't support their deaths. I think it's terrible that people are dying, but those people that are dying are basically dumb. They were warned of the flooding well in advance and many chose to do nothing about it, just like the country as a whole has been warned about the effects of climate change - but instead of listening wore it's skeptism badge with pride in that special way that many Aussies in general can be so annoying arrogant...

Think of it as Darwinism in action.

Somehow I have a feeling that those Aborigines still living in traditional ways (those that are still left after the genocide inflicted upon them by the Australians, or forcible resettlement into a western way of life!) are smarter than that.
