Would you ever leave everything to live in the future?

I was just thinking about this question to myself and everyone has different opinions. If there was a portal and somoene from the future (Say 2080) came out and held their hand open and were like "Come with me and leave your present FOREVER", would you be temped to leave? As if you step into the portal, you will NEVER see anyone you know EVER again?

Or would you decide to stay? Or what if they gave you the opportunity to see your future, say 30 years from now, would you do it? I know i would be tempted (or may even do it tbh) Though, i may be stepping into a world full of destruction, who knows [no]

The future, I believe, from an environmental point of view, will probably be quite similar to something like the Highlander films.

Crime and unemployment being rife across the world, just a hellhole to live in.. so no, I'll die in the present thanks, don't think im too interested [thumbdown]

Sure, why not.

You would have to be an idiot not to... 70 years into the future? Imagine what progress we have made! What you could learn! What we have discovered... Sure it is not guaranteed to be a good future... But that fact that you are given such an opportunity (impossible one) is reason enough to take it. Even if it may make your life more miserable... I would not pass up on it.

No, it's too risky. Besides, even if it's a such technological advanced world with hopefully more peace you have no family or friends to share it with. You can get new friends but still, that world will have its own issues.

It really depends, would Duke Nukem Forever have been published yet?

Lunims 01-17-2011 11:37 AM

Yes Please!!! Are you that guy from the future portal?!?!

Don't be so sure. Magic Johnson may have very well discovered an anti-aging cure well before 2080 http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/wink1.gif

I would go tomorrow , 200 + years into the future, maybe a 1000, would be some epic **** going on.

Joesred 01-17-2011 02:38 PM

Depends.. would I be able to return to 2011 or be stuck in that future life?

I'd take it if I could come back.. just in case it's worse than the present. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ies/laugh1.gif

If I had the chance to tell everyone bye...I probably would. There are a lot of achievements that mankind will eventually make that I almost certainly will never be alive for that I really want to see (such as cheap space travel/colonies on Mars ect...). The closer I can get by skipping some years the better. I realize it would be selfish to abandon those I have influenced in some way but I think they would understand and might even be jealous.http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...es/tongue1.gif

Hell yeah, I can't wait for the suicide booths to be invented http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...s/excited1.gif

Hmm, some of you guys must have some shitty lives.

zlopikanikanz 01-17-2011 03:27 PM

No to living in the future. Advances might have been made yes, but I see the world as a whole worse off as time goes by.

I would also be more scare to see myself 30 years in the future.

Nah just done most stuff in life I challenged my self to ! New challenge is always good and can't turn down a once in a life time opportunity.

SinyugiN 01-17-2011 04:02 PM

No way, that would be a very **** move! Besides, we are always looking back to the "good old times" so chances are that is what they think in the future about us too.

An "idiot" not to? Seeing as how the terms were you'd be stuck in the future and you'd never see your friends and family again you can't value yours very much.

Unless it was a temporary "peak" and then home again I'll pass thanks very much.

viagraman 01-17-2011 05:16 PM

Definitely not. We learn by doing and from the mistakes we make. Therefore the future, by definition, will always be full of people making lots of mistakes.

I'm not sure that makes any sense. I haven't had 32 cups of coffee yet and it's Monday morning.
