Default BMW 1 Series M Coupe finally revealed
http://www.topgear.com/uk/photos/bmw...led-2010-12-10

What do you guys think ?

I like it.......the coupe body makes you forget the horrible shape of the 1 series hatch and the the power is good.......they could easily have given it more but obviously held back because it's already close enough to the current M3.

I like it, but a small car that weight a tonne and a half?
That's more than most of the American cars of the sixties and seventies that were called overweight tanks!

Well unless you want the "safety features" of the 70s back this is something you gotta get used to. At least in a Premium car.

But I dont like the design. The BMW 1 never appealed to me. In my opinion they should have sticked to the higher classes.

Front Bumper looks totally out of place, like some aftermarket boy racer addon. [thumbdown]

I'd still prefer an original E30 M3 to any other BMW product, though!

The 135i Coupe looks pretty good, but they have just gone over the top with this one (style-wise). Maybe it's just that horrible oxidised turd colour though.

I came close to getting a 120d Coupe. It was an M-Sport, which made it look really nice. They're a very tidy little car. Maybe a bit pricey though. This one almost looks over the top, and is a little on the heavy side but it sure seems quick.

Me too actually, kind of wish I had now. The 3 series just seems a bit too grown up for me.

The E46 M3 is over 1550 kg , the E90 is almost 1700kg.

I'd still go for a second hand E46 M3 CSL 1385kg and 360bhp.

Plus is one of the best looking BMW's ever....

80's American cars were overweight. 60's and 70's cars like the Mustang we're only 1100-1300kg is weight.

Just get a 135i and get a chip for it. [thumbup]
You can make 350/350 on a $500 chip. Put another $3,000ish iirc and have 450/450.

Im surprised they are even investing in a M1. I have only seen 1 1-series on the road and that was when I was working at the hospital.
They have sold 8,600 from Jan. to Aug. which is inline with 7-Series sales and 1,000 more cars then this time last year.

I like it, but past and present M3's still hold a place in my heart.

But wouldnt there be a lot of other differences to consider
It's not like a core i7 920 that will give you the exact same performance as an i7 960 when overclocked.

There are indeed some other differences, like bigger brakes, bigger wheels/tyres, a limited slip differential, and possibly some minor engine changes. It's true that you can make a 135i very fast on the cheap though and you can pick up a decent second hand one to modify for far less than a new 1 series M coupe.

I can see the argument for getting a 135i.
