iTunes Help!
 

I've just upraded from a Windows XP machine to a Windows 7 machine. I followed the instructions here and copied the iTunes folder from the old PC to the new one, but when I try to play any media I get the error message "The podcast "[Insert name here]" could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?" Why isn't it working?

When you created your new account on windows 7 did you exactly enter the exact same username?

Itunes saves all your music and podcasts in your "My Music" folder along with the details of the directory such as C:/Usernames/Username/My Music/Itunes

If you haven't you need to either create a new username exactly the same as on Windows XP or edit the itunes database file which will be located in "My Music/Itunes"

1. Copy C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\ into the identical folder in new install.

2. Copy C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Local Settings\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\ into the identical folder in new install

3. Copy entire contents of old C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\ into the identical folder in new install

I think that might have been it. Anyway, I selected the option to locate the file and it gave me an option to use that info to locate all the rest of the missing data and that seemed to sort it. Everything seems fine now. Thanks for your help.
