I've just upraded from a Windows XP machine to a Windows 7 machine. I followed the instructions here and copied the iTunes folder from the old PC to the new one, but when I try to play any media I get the error message "The podcast "[Insert name here]" could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?" Why isn't it working?

When you created your new account on windows 7 did you exactly enter the exact same username?
Itunes saves all your music and podcasts in your "My Music" folder along with the details of the directory such as C:/Usernames/Username/My Music/Itunes If you haven't you need to either create a new username exactly the same as on Windows XP or edit the itunes database file which will be located in "My Music/Itunes" 1. Copy C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\ into the identical folder in new install. 2. Copy C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Local Settings\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\ into the identical folder in new install 3. Copy entire contents of old C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\ into the identical folder in new install |
