I don't know in a way Napster is better now than it was back then. People like to make a big deal out of Naspter and for it's time it was great but it was still lacking. I had real trouble finding albums from bands I would still consider mainstream. All I could ever find was single tracks of their popular singles. You might have to pay these days but for the 5 bucks a month service since you get 5 tracks you get to stream their entire catalog for free.
I agree. At the time though it was pretty amazing being able to punch in the name of a song and have it served to your PC rather quickly. More quickly if you were on DSL, which I adopted to as soon as it was available and took advantage of. From that point on I was pretty sure of where the future was going.

Also the thing was..... You pretty much couldn't pay even if you wanted too then.

Darth Vader - "Nooooooooooooooooooooo!"

"The more you tighten your grip, Governor Tarkin, the more star systems will slip through your fingers."

They keep after this year after year, and for every finger they lop off, thirty more grow to replace it. They are going to have to stop file sharing by filling the demand in other ways themselves, but instead they fight for years and waste millions in court.

I just watch them flailing from a distance and roll my eyes at this point. They have a right to protect themselves, but this is a losing battle.

Unless they start shooting people! [surrender]

Thank God. It's nothing but a mess of viruses and spyware anyway. First two questions I ask when someone wants me to look at their PC are, "Do you have teenagers?" and if that is a yes, "Do they use Limewire?"

Less work for everyone who fixes PCs though [no]

Doubt it. With limewire out of the picture they will just move on to the next thing. I'm sure there will be loads of fake file sharing apps with hidden spyware too claiming to be a working limewire that will trick tons of people.

But... where will pedophiles share child porn now?

Oh wait, 4chan, nvm.

escolubtessen 10-28-2010 04:49 AM

*hugs old outdated version*

I'll never let you go!

However since I setup an iTunes account I rarely find myself using that junk anyway.
High quality audio > low quality and dubbed over to the point you can't hear the song (SOUTHERN SMOKE...[thumbdown])

Well, I admit to an occasional visit to 4chan, and from what I have seen, with the occasional short lived exception, that kind of porn really doesn't show up over there.

However, I am not saddened in the least about limewire being gone. But I disagree in the manner it is leaving. Limewire is simply a tool that facilitiates. It doesn't force peoples hands into downloading illegal stuff. There is an equivalency to holding a gun maker responsible if someone uses their gun to commit murder.

Yep, as are Spotify, LastFM & Pandora.

It's actually just as easy to get music for free legitimately as it is to pirate it now
