test drive both and take the one you prefer

i know you are sold to toyota but i would suggest to just try and test drive a honda jazz/fit

The Aygo is an intelligently made car which is cool and great for cities.

The Yaris is another run of the mill toyota's which is beaten by every other car maker in the segment.

I agree, that's a good enough summation.

I'd also recommend looking at a Honda Jazz. Pretty much bullet proof, very practical and spacious for their size, engines a bit gutless, but good for 50mpg off petrol.

My mum used to have a Yaris 1.0L. It was a nice enough small car, nothing amazing but I liked the digital dash and speedo.

However, the problem was, whenever I put my foot down, nothing happened. The engine made a noise but the car just trundles along at whatever speed you were before. I think even for those who are not interested in speed or power the Yaris would still leave something to be desired.

If the Aygo has a better power to weight ratio than the Yaris then that would be the car I recommend.

Well thanks for all the input everyone, i'd like to be able to consider other manufacturers, but i've just had nothing but great experiences with my Toyotas, even my current Corolla has had just 2 new headlight bulbs, 4 new tyres and 4 new brakepads in 9 years, apart from those few things it's been incredibly reliable. So for these reasons (amongst others) i'm gonna stick with Toyota for now.

As for the Aygo vs Yaris debate, i think i'm gonna go for the Aygo, The Stig likes it, so it must be good. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/wink1.gif Anyway, going to test drive an Aygo Black and Yaris 1.33 vvt-i this week or next, depending on the other halfs work schedule, that will be the ultimate decider, but i'm definitely leaning towards the Aygo right now. Aygo has no power, if the roads are flat all over and you mainly drive by yourself then it may do the job.
Yaris in 1.0L form is probably even slower, but at least a bit more space, in 1.3L form it should be easily the superior car.

Who made the manual gearbox? It felt very french when I drove it.

Well considering its a Toyota designed engine id guess its paired with an Aisin-Warner transmission, which is Japanese, but Aisin-Warner is also OEM for a lot of the french car companies as well so it would make sense.
