if your gonna spend that kinda cash why not start with a gtr?
Several reasons...

1. The base MSRP on the GTR is $48,000 more than what I paid for my Z... By the time you're look at dealer markup and taxes, it's more like $60,000+ more. (I could almost buy 3 of the Zs I bought for that!) Yes, off the lot the GTR is a better car, but what I'm going to be doing to my Z isn't going to nearly cost $60,000... And by the time the Z is done, it will hand a GTR its' ass on a silver platter. [yes]

2. Try comparing the insurance between a Z and a GTR As far as my insurance is concerned, it will be a weekend driver @ stock. The only extra I'll be paying is to cover the modifications against theft and accidents. Gotta love my insurance!

3. EVERY last detail on my Z will be custom-tailored EXACTLY to my liking...

4. The wife-to-be wants a 370Z Roadster, nuff said. [surrender]

Not really into the modding scene and am more of a fan of European sports engineering.

To each their own... IMHO it's a matter of look @ what I bought as opposed to look at what I built. (Pretty much identical to the mindset of building your own PC as opposed to buying an Alienware... on more levels than just the system)

If all I cared about was driving the car, then sure, I'd pick something snazzy off the lot. Lord knows there are plenty of options from car manufacturers on all corners of the earth... But I'll have tons of fun with the wrench time with friends and family over many beers... plus the pride in putting the beast together and accomplishing something for yourself! [thumbup]

Sorry, I forgot that you were amazing at everything. It appeared that you were buying something stock and throwing money at it, in which case I wondered why you weren't opting for something more elegant.

It's like the young guys in the UK that buy a Golf, cover it in plastic and play with the engine; for the same price they could have a nice "executive saloon" of the same age.

It's great when you do most of the work yourself [thumbup]

I also rather build a fast car than buy one that is fast stock...

Good aftermarket work can get you more power than you'll get stock for a far better price.

And that plastic covered VW golf, in the right hands, can be a pretty peppy little car.

You seem like the kind of guy who would buy an Alienware PC.

Maybe I should do what the mythbusters did a while back... They modified a car with dimples like a golf ball has to see if it would improve fuel economy... +3mpg

Yep, you're right. Alienware have a long history of building PCs in Lian Li V350s.

Hahaha, that's about the most inappropriate thing for you to say - considering your drive!

370 isn't my sort of car, but I can sure appreciate it and the work that's going to go into it!
