Geek things you've done in public

I had an rm -rf /bin/laden bumper sticker
I've made d&d jokes to normal people and been met with a blank stare
I've cosplayed, but that was ok because it was at otakon
I talk about pc hardware and electronics with people who bring up the topic as if I expected them to know what ram actually is.

I used to bust out my magic deck whenever I found another player.

I was the UK's first busking overclocker. Made around £30 a day. Barely enough to cover my train fare let alone the thousands of pounds of hardware I went through every day.

Whilst in the middle of my WoW addiction I commented to my girlfriend I was "Going to morrisons to loot some snacks."

the company I work for installs fire alarm systems, security, cctv etc, and we occasionally have training sessions that last about a week long. during one of them I setup my fire alarm training board to display all your base are belong to us in one of the sub menus which caused my boss to question me about it several weeks later when they found it during another training session. I was also called out as a hacker by the tech guy when I pointed out that I had found a couple of back doors in their software. He said it was impossible to get into windows once their software launched as it was locked out. this forced me to prove him wrong. their dvr is a windows xp based pc with proprietary software running over it. told him if it was linux I probably wouldnt have been able to get in. he gave me a 8gb flash disk as a prize for finding the back door.

I also had to explain what goatse was to a guy I work with after he read something online but couldnt figure it out.

I occasionally fight off the geek inside. last week some people my wife work with had a get together. it was on the roof of a 20 floor apartment building. a couple of them were joking about throwing a penny off the top but afraid they would kill somebody. I started doing the math in my head that thought about explaining the terminal velocity of a penny to them but decided it was best just to say mythbusters did it, it wont kill them since they really did and I hoped it sounded less geeky to admit I watch mythbusters than to calculate the terminal velocity of a penny. although I was told by a friend that I ruined july 4th by trying to determine the distance of the fireworks from us based on the delay between the visual explosion and the sound.

Yeah I have learn't to act like I have no idea what my workmates are talking about when it comes to PC stuff (it's aviation not IT, so most have no idea). People get shitty if they get called on having no real idea what they are on about, especially pilots because some do it alot [rofl]

In fact I keep my mouth shut about a lot of things one more experienced, but actually terribly hopeless pilot say's. Reason being is that he has a lot of friends who don't realise how useless he is. He sucks up too them so damn well, that it's actually a great skill he has. Too bad it's his only real skill.

3/4 of my wardrobe references video games or Chuck Norris in some way.

I frequently use the excuse "I can't make it, I have a Magic tournament that day".

My friends and I refer to everything as gaining or losing rep, or tanking, healing or dpsing, or whatever applicable WoW reference happens to apply to the current social situation.
