Default Everyone needs to watch this video
Warning: This relates to the wikileaks video of the US chopper gunner gunning down and killing people in Iraq so discretion is advised.

I believe so too. The solider in the video says these things "happen daily".

War is messy, brutal and unforgiving. If you're trigger happy and engage anything that could be a potential threat, innocents die. If you hold back and don't fire, soldiers die.

It's easy to say "It was a camera man and some kids" after the fact, but from that video all you can see is a group of men with what look like weapons, near the site of an ambush on soldiers. Then a van pulling up and collecting bodies and objects (assumed to be weapons by the chopper crew, who are painfully unprofessional and dispicable in their reactions by the way). I for one would not have even noticed people in the front, let alone that they were kids if the video hadn't been edited to point it out.

All I'd say is that in my opinion there shouldn't have been any of those unprotected patrols in the first place. Perhaps the whole mess could have been avoided.

I wish that guy would fly the chopper in and blow this guy away giving a speech.

Arm-chair soldiers talking down to people when they couldn't fathom a real combat situation. Hexus_Tech pretty much summed it up.

Oh, the shitty youtube users.

Oh, the shitty youtube users.
Regardless of the youtube comments (I haven't read them) I do find the behavior of the pilots to be very in-humane. I mean I understand it's a war and it's either shoot first or you die, but to laugh at dead bodies on the ground and show no honor or respect is very sad.

I actually lived through a war growing up as a child so I know it's a terrible thing, and that sometimes things like respect and honor are nothing more than words, but I found these pilots to be extremely cold hearted. It was a painful video to watch.

Am I surprised? Not in the slightest, I know how the American military operates and its gung-ho approach is surprise. It's just hard to watch, especially when children are involved.

Every military acts gung-ho because thats the **** job of the military. Do you think in ANY WAR EVER on this planet they had honor or respect for dead bodies? NO. What a ridiculous statement. Why would they care for what they suspected was the enemies life?

It's war. There is no honor. There is no respect. There is no happiness and sunshine and righteousness in it. There is just people killing each other and through this mistakes happen. If you try to be morally above your enemy, you will die.

So you are implying that the war in Iraq has no moral causes, it's just of who's in power in the area, no matter what?

I'm just sitting here thinking of a reply that will at least get something through to you and I don't think there is any point. To be honest, I'm just glad you're not in the army as it seems you would be one of those same "there is no honor or morality in war, suck it up and get to work" types that would shoot first and ask questions later.

What the hell did these people think was going to happen in war. Haven't any of these people ever watched war movies before they enlisted.

And I would win.

The moral causes for the initial invasion are sketchy at best.

If anything, these videos are just a reassurance as to what war actually is. As others have said, war is ugly, brutal, and at times necessary. Hopefully this actually opens people's eyes to the idea that unless it is completely and totally warranted, war should be avoided at all costs.

That is what I'm trying to say. War is brutal...every war, this same exact thing happens yet people act surprised when it does.

You can't go to war and expect to avoid all civilian casualties and simply go in as the good guys to take out the bad guys. It doesn't work that way.

Says the arm-chair soldier... [rolleyes]

I guess you know so much more about a real combat situation than the guy in the video?

You failed to do one of the most basic things on a discussion board which is to read the thread first.
