china will make out like a bandit on those afghan resources though.... in like 30 years. I imagine by that time, the afghans wish it was still the US and Britain/Nato in there. China's military will be strong, and they have a long history of not caring about lives. |

Russia tried and failed with Afghanistan... so your argument would be pretty moot [yes] I mean hell, just US and Britain could eradicate everyone there if that was our intention. |

It looks like the west (incl. Israel) is going to p*ssy out about August 21st, kinda disappointing. But it's nice to see another Israeli pushing for another war, good on ya. |

lol, I expect nothing less from an Israeli. You find it "kinda disappointing" that Israel & the west won't attack Iran? You obviously know nothing about the Iranian regime and middle eastern politics. If you did, you would know that they would never have the balls to attack ANY other country since they are at war with their own people, I doubt they can afford to go to war with the west. ![]() |

These days I have no idea why we are fighting this war. I know Australia is there simply there because the American's are. So it's more about keeping a good political relationship with the American's.
I agree with chasing the bad guys that are responsible for 9/11. I can't remember the last time this war had anything to do with 9/11. Bin Laden hasn't been found. Of course finding Bin Laden I think would mean America would have to then justify its occupation in these countries after finding him, which I think they want to stay long term. The Iraq war. What a mess, but I think now that we have destabilised the country we got to fix it. You can't just up and leave and let the filth take over. |

The Iraq war. What a mess, but I think now that we have destabilized the country we got to fix it. You can't just up and leave and let the filth take over. As for Afghanistan I heard the Taliban stoned a couple caught for adultery recently in the north of the country so it seems the Taliban are back to running a few areas here and there. |

For those interested, listen to the interview with the first guy, Mir Rosen. I've never seen him before but the guy really knows what he's talking about regarding the Iraqi war

I agree with that, but it's hard to see what the US is doing to actually "fix" he problems. I mean does anyone know exactly what they are doing there now? http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/7856618.stm |

I'm not sure where you got this fact from but it's not going to be fabricating plutonium it's a uranium reactor. But why would you want plutonium when you have the ability to enrich uranium? Mass needed for criticality is far less - in other words, you need less of it to go boom. |

Oh well here is some stats/reading of conditions there now. I read somewhere that every year 160 US soldiers commit suicide in Iraq alone. I think that must be unheard of in US warfare, except for maybe Vietnam, I know that was a pretty horrible one. |

A little interesting news for the thread,
After Seven Years, Final U.S. Combat Brigade Leaves Iraq. http://www.foxnews.com/world/2010/08...e-leaves-iraq/ KHABARI CROSSING, Kuwait -- As their convoy reached the barbed wire at the border crossing out of Iraq on Wednesday, the soldiers whooped and cheered. Then they scrambled out of their stifling hot armored vehicles, unfurled an American flag and posed for group photos. For these troops of the 4th Stryker Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division, it was a moment of relief fraught with symbolism. Seven years and five months after the U.S.-led invasion, the last American combat brigade was leaving Iraq, well ahead of President Barack Obama's Aug. 31 deadline for ending U.S. combat operations there. |
