I found out a friend from primary school died
Was talking to a class mate on Facebook and she told me that another of our class, who I was mates with for a while, had died! I Google his name and found a Telegraph article about it
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/ukne...Slow-sign.html He was a father too. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ilies/sad1.gif I only got back in contact with him a few years ago and we met up in town for a coffee and a chat about old times. |
whoops.http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...es/unsure1.gif
looks like he was going to fast down the hill, lost control, then Ironically hit a "slow down sign". http://www.kentonline.co.uk/images/b...map_030310.jpg its a pretty damn dodgy hill that...so its Kinda a bit of a darwin award.. Kinda like if I was to ride my bike down death hill (brands hatch) I would too end up dead. |
I do a bit of mountain biking myself. Sometimes locally, but I don't think I've even done any in that particular area. I'm a bit of a wimp though: I don't go too fast, and if it gets too step or rough I get off and walk!

RIP.
You need good brakes on hills like that. I have to ride down the side of an old quarry on my way to work (unless I want a 2 mile extra ride) and my shimano hydraulics with resin pads are excellent, they keep the speed controlled with plenty in reserve but damn the discs are hot at the bottom. Completely untouchable and I think if it was a much longer hill I'd be in danger of boiling the brake fluid (it's mineral oil so quite a low boiling temp). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c95zo_63wAY - luckily my discs don't get that hot! |

that hill by brands hatch (m20) is so steep and goes on for so long that when I go down it in my car I actually turn my engine off,and it still maintains the speed of 70 mph for the full duration of the hill [rofl] in fact it picks up speed, dodgy I know, but I only do it to save fuel and when theres no others around. |

Sorry to hear about your friend, Bungle, was he on a bike, m/bike or a car? |

mostly I knock it out of gear and coast for the duration, then blip the throttle then whack it back into gear. all wrong and frowned apon, but I only do it on a clear stretch with no cars in my lane and I stick to the Lh lane |

Personally, I tend to have a rather elasticated interpretation of what the highway code means. |
