Who here has done the CCNA?

Morning...

just wondering how long realistically it would take to study for the CCNA with ciscos own books with a basic knowledge of networking (read half the comptia n+ material)

if you could post your own experiences tht would be great

Cheers

I took two college-level courses on it in high school and didn't have a prayer of passing the test. I hate networking.

I have CCNA Cisco level one and I think with a decent amount of studying you'll be fine. It's a difficult test, but by no means the end of the world. I also just had a buddy who took it and passed as well on his first try.

I've just finished an 18 month, 1 day a week course, just need to complete my final exam to get my final certificates.

I'm a bit of a network head so I enjoyed the course, very interesting stuff, learning about subnetting/routing being the main focus of the course.

Don't know a realistic timescale with self study and no other commitments, but theres my 2p [thumbup]

When you say a basic knowledge of networking I assume you mean how to plug a router into a computer and wire a basic LAN? there's some very intensive maths involved in the course base-10 and hex/binary conversion... I'm not good with maths but there are good methods to work this stuff out. If you decide to go for it, just PM if you need any help with anything :)

I have a little more knowledge than that but that pretty much sums it up. The maths doesnt worry me... maths is pretty much my forte - but no doubt ill hold you to that offer, cheers!

thanks for the input peeps. books are dispatched so guess ill find out soon enough

edit: what sort of assumed knowledge is there? i see there are no prerequisites to the exam but i take it they expect you to know something beforehand???

I put in 3 semesters of classes learning about Cisco networking/CCNA certs.. I did well in the classes and really didnt' find it that hard to understand, but it was boring and uninteresting in my opinion so I never pursued the cert. I could never imagine working in that field and actually enjoying my life, but that's just me.

i passed my CCNA 3 years ago..I should renew it but too busy with work and maybe I should advance into CCNP exams.

if you like networking, then definitely get it
