I've been browsing these forums for years waiting to spring this one an unsuspecting victim. I can now retire from posting.

Ha! That is pretty good.

That brings up a good point...

waters,

What did you set your memory frequency to once you found out?

This will determine your Onion status for sure.
210Mhz. If memory serves, this chipset doesn't care for much past 225Mhz. I could probably drop the timings, though. I didn't think of that before. It really has been a long time since I've mucked with any of this, and I never did care for this AMI BIOS even back when I was familiar with my own hardware.

This is like having Onion Alzheimer's. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ies/blink1.gif

Just noticed my title. Ha! Very nice, mystery mod.

I wonder if anyone makes a custom volume knob for a Strat that goes up to 11. I want one now! It's the only way I'll shut up my buddy and his Les Pauls.

IndianScout, is there such a knob?

Don't worry wåters.

The only PC I own is a Dell media machine with pathetic Intel integrated gfx. It drops below 10fps even in old 3DMark03 when running 800x600 res http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...es/unsure1.gif.

I still call myself 3DMark's gran'pa http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...s/biggrin1.gif

For months I've been bitching to everyone that my system feels sluggish. I even went so far as to blame Windows 7 and declare that Vista is faster.

Today, by accident, I launched CPUID. Once opened, I got curious and poked around. Under the 'Memory' tab, I noticed that my memory speed was listed as 105 Mhz. How odd. I thought I had better check this in the BIOS. Reboot. Sure enough, my DDR400 has been in DDR200 mode for the past several months.

This is a sad day to pretend to be an Onion. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...es/unsure1.gif On the plus side, my system feels pleasantly snappy again! [thumbup]

Wonder if they make "11" knobs for my Marshall...

Well I am just as bad, I can't get my crappy 533/1066 DDR2 to actually go at 1066mhz... it's stuck at 800/400.

Relegate me to Apprentice Newb

I do not believe it. Voltage up, timings down?

What does the SPD say about the timings?

I'm not at my home PC - I've been thinking of asking for help, but the Gigabyte forums are full of people with the same issue and the same chipset combinations.

I upped the NB voltage, relaxed the CAS/RAS/ReCH timings etc - I even followed the SPD timings. I think it's a Mobo issue with the RAM I have.

No, I doubt it. There are 2 possible reasons:

1. God hates you.
2. You touch yourself at night.

Those are the universal answers to all problems. Usually mine stem from a combination of the two, with #2 causing #1.
God touches me at night.

On a more thread-related note, can you really tell the difference between the RAM speeds then? I've never tried it but I always assumed that for everyday use it wouldn't make much difference.

I'd think you'd be able to notice a decrease of RAM speed by half.

Also, since it is tied to the processor speed through FSB multiplier, you'd really be feeling it.

FSB * Multi = CPU speed.

Wouldn't the CPU speed show up correctly still with the memory divider set wrong?http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ies/blink1.gif

Yes the CPU speed would be correct if it was just the memory divider that was incorrectly set. On waters' board though the memory ratios is on a different page in the BIOS to the FSB settings so unless you look it's something that's easily missed. Poor design I'd say.
