Why would you do such a thing?
Bury money under a giant "W." Why not just deposit it in the bank? You don't make interest when your money is under the ground.

Is this related to a news story in some way or a question?
Either way it's simple. People don't put money in a bank when they are trying to dodge paying income (or similar) tax.
Farmers used to do it all the time I've heard.
